I'm being attacked by another editor at the bottom of page Talk:Somalis in the United Kingdom. Is this allowed and can I do anything? BrumEduResearch (talk) 18:17, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, unless the editor in question is stalking you and maliciously reverting your edits, I would ignore them. Name-calling is unavoidable sometimes but unless there's solid evidence nothing generally comes of it. If you find yourself being bullied let someone know. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Superdiversity requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about something invented/coined/discovered by the article's creator or someone they know personally, and it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. —Largo Plazo (talk) 17:32, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I recreated the article. Of course superdiversity is an invented concept but it is important and significant. I hope this is clear now.BrumEduResearch (talk)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Superdiversity has been reverted.
Your edit here to Superdiversity was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://fairbrum.wordpress.com/2012/04/23/what-on-earth-is-superdiversity/) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Superdiversity

Hello, I noticed your comment on Talk:Superdiversity. While it may be beneficial to have experience on a subject, the editor that tagged the page may be concerned that you have a conflict of interest on the subject. Pishcal 14:21, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have offered to stop editing the article if needed. Can you explain the conflict though? Lots of Somalis seem to edit the Somalis in the United Kingdom article and they seem to be allowed to. Superdiversity isn't about specific people, just a concept. BrumEduResearch (talk) 14:26, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe you need to stop editing the page. Having a conflict of interest doesn't mean that you can't edit Wikipedia, it just means that you need to be careful when making possibly controversial edits, which I don't believe you're making. As for somalis editing the Somalis in the United Kingdom article, I wouldn't know exactly, but WP:COI usually applies more to people editing on behalf of a company. If you believe that anybody editing that page does have a conflict of interest which is affecting their contributions, consider taking up the issue on the article talk page. Pishcal 15:40, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, neither Middayexpress, 26oo, or even I have revealed what ethnic groups we come from. AcidSnow (talk) 18:07, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nor have I releaved what gender I am but Middayexpress and you still decided for me. Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BrumEduResearch. [1]. BrumEduResearch (talk) 11:22, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting indeed. WP:COI also applies to companies and special interest organizations (like, say, hate groups). Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 18:19, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
BrumEduResearch, just a tip: it's best not to make assumptions about editors' backgrounds. Middayexpress, please don't insinuate that an editor is a member of a hate group without any evidence to back it up. I see nothing in BrumEduResearch's edit history to suggest this is the case. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:36, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No need to panic, Larry. I was referring to the policy itself. Perhaps I should've also linked to WP:NOTADVOCATE. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 18:49, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Good to know, though I don't know why it was necessary to mention hate groups. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:51, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Because it applies to them as well, of course. Perhaps even more so than comparatively harmless corporate runts. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 18:54, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it does, but there's no evidence that that applies here. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:59, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I'm just relaying policy. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 20:14, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NOTADVOCATE doesn't even mention hate groups. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:20, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It pertains to advocacy, recruitment, scandal mongering and propaganda of any kind (including the worst sort). Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 20:58, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't get very far in academia doing research on immigration if was in a hate group. BrumEduResearch (talk) 11:04, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thinktank editathon

Hi, I look forward to seeing you on 7 March at Thinktank. The primary focus of the event is the museum's own collection and related matters, but we'll be happy to help you in anyway we can, with your Wikipedia editing. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:55, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Derek R Bullamore: I see that Reflinks doesn't process External Links the same way it does references, so the links in the "External links" section are all a bit cryptic: they give the website name but no indication of the article being linked to. It would be an improvement to the article if they were formatted like ordinary referenes, with titles etc. (Yes, I know, WP:SOFIXIT, but I've got stuff I ought to be doing in Real Life...) PamD 20:07, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to fix this. Hope it's ok. BrumEduResearch (talk) 11:30, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help

Is there a way I can complain about a Wikipedia user who is trying to intimidate me?

I would recommend talking to them about the issue on their talk page, and if that doesn't work, you can take them up at WP:ANI (Administrator's Noticeboard/Incidents). From my personal experience however, that place is quite nasty and scary, so be mentally prepared for mild shouting and insults. Thanks! Next meetups in North England

Hello. Would you be interested in attending one of the next wikimeets in the north of England? They will take place in:

If you can make them, please sign up on the relevant wikimeet page!

If you want to receive future notifications about these wikimeets, then please add your name to the notification list (or remove it if you're already on the list and you don't want to receive future notifications!)

Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 22:48, 28 March 2015 (UTC) @User:Mike Peel Sorry I missed the Birmingham meetup. I was feeling a bit harassed here and stopped editing for a bit and it also slipped my mind if I'm honest. Will try to make the next Brum one.BrumEduResearch (talk) 13:19, 25 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

AN/I discussion

In regard to [[2]], are you aware of Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Middayexpress? I believe there are a number of editors concerned with his behaviour. Buckshot06 (talk) 22:12, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No I wasn't. Very handy link, thanks. He seems to have a problem with reliable sources about Somalis. What action can be taken? BrumEduResearch (talk) 22:16, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Would you kindly please consider enabling your 'emailthisuser' function? Regards Buckshot06 (talk) 23:38, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Admin help please

Some of us are concerned that a user reported at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#WP:NPA_breech_following_NPOV.2C_THIRDPARTY_breeches may canvas friendly users, possibly outside Wikipedia. Admins who are not involve are requested to monitor or comment.BrumEduResearch (talk) 16:45, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's on the Administrator's Noticeboard; ergo, administrators are already aware of the problem. Canvassing is already under discussion by the parties involved; there's no need for this additional alert. Yunshui  12:40, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

User:AcidSnow|AcidSnow

hi you would like to have your help with this user who seems to insist in using a fraud document against a CSIS.ORG document and keeps rv all the time in the State Of Somaliland, which you can read in talk page thanks .Hadraa (talk) 22:28, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Superdiversity article

Hello. You don't seem to have edited in a while, but if you are still interested, there has been some progress with the Superdiversity article thanks to PamD and I thought that you might like to know. Cordless Larry (talk) 23:23, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Larry. I've been busy with PHD work so had to step back from Wiki. I came back because I saw some more biased editing of the Somalis article. Do you think Middayexpress has a new account?--BrumEduResearch (talk) 00:07, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've only just seen your reply because I came here to post the comment below. In future, if you want to get another user's attention, you should include a link to their username in your comment, so they receive a notification. I did initially think of Middayexpress when I saw Soupforone's comments and edits, but I think it's just a coincidence that they happen to share some of the same opinions. Soupforone also has a long editing history, most of which doesn't concern Somalis. I suggest assuming good faith. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:39, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indenting comments

Hi. When replying to comments on talk pages, can you try to remember to indent them by starting them with a colon? Otherwise, they malform like this. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:35, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the tips User:Cordless Larry.BrumEduResearch (talk) 00:14, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
