Table formatting on DCI pages
Hey there!
I noticed that you reverted a change I made to a table on The Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps page. You told me that instead of changing the couple of rows that were formatted differently than the rest of everything else, that I should instead fix the "bad formatting" of the rest of the table.
Could you please let me know what makes this formatting bad? Before I made this change I checked on the WP:WDC page, where they have the colors listed under "Row color." To me this seems like the row should have that color, not just the one cell?
This also doesn't seem to violate MOS:COLOR as the color is not the only method used to communicate information, and has appropriate contrast to the text in the table.
Can you please point me to whatever resource you are using to determine what constitutes bad formatting and good formatting in this context? I'm new here and I would love to continue to be helpful and contribute, but it's a bit discouraging to see an edit I made get reverted, called bad, and then not be able to find any sort of policy that would cause someone to draw this conclusion. TheRainComes (talk) 17:28, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- I apologize if I sounded discourteous; that would never be my intention. In this case, only the cells that identify Finalist or Semifinalist should be shaded in as they match the background color. The rest of the row should be left unshaded. Some of the DCI pages have undergone this change, but not all of them, as there is never enough time in the day. If you look at, for example, Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, that table has been formatted properly. The goal is to eventually have all of the DCI tables uniform. Thank you for your message! Bgsu98 (Talk) 17:49, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- I appreciate your response
- However, I still don't see a source that backs up your assertion that the formatting is bad. In fact, it seems that after I pointed out that WP:WDC had listed colors under "Row colors," you went and changed it to "Cell color" instead of responding to what I pointed out.
- I'd really love to know where consensus was reached on this. When I look at the edit history for Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps it seems you were the one to reformat these tables too.
- I appreciate that you have an opinion on how things should look, but it seems that you're making these choices on style and formatting rather unilaterally.
- So, I'm asking once again for clarification on which resource you are using to make these decisions.
- I can see you're an advocate for accessibility, which is awesome, and I totally agree with that. However, I still fail to see how changing this formatting increases accessibility in any way. Personally, it makes it harder for me to read the way you've chosen to format this. Is this something that was ever discussed or was it something that you decided on? From my perspective, as long as the contrast is okay and the information is presented in more than just with color, there shouldn't be a problem for those with visual impairment. However, coloring the entire row could help someone with an information processing issue (ADHD, ASD, etc.) to be able to more efficiently find the information they are looking for.
- I don't mean to be combative, but I do want to advocate for what I believe to be the most accessible way to have this chart formatted. TheRainComes (talk) 18:34, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

Hey Bgsu98, hope all's well! Posting here in case you didn't see the ping from the other day on the FLN page. Please let Shwabb and I know if you'd be ready to support now or if you have any other improvements/comments for the list. Thanks and congrats also on getting the figure skating list promoted! :) Dan the Animator 06:17, 3 March 2025 (UTC)

Trash, junk
Well, a lot of content is trash, or junk, but people do take that as a personal attack. See this edit and the preceding comments that led up to the non-apology apology. I do not regret having blocked that editor for personal attacks, of course. Tip of the hat to User:David Eppstein for keeping his cool. Thanks, and take care, Drmies (talk) 14:41, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
- After all that edit-warring, promotional hoohah, and sockpuppetry, I'd have probably lost it. Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:04, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
Roman Galay - Personal life
Hi @Bgsu98
I saw you had edited the following page: Roman Galay. In particular, the piece containing the following text: - "Galay was dating Finnish figure skater Oona Ounasvuori for a long time" - was deleted. Your comment: "This isn't a gossip blog."
But I should mention that this information is based on the official website of the Finnish National Figure Skating Federation - see the source from the previous version of the page: https://www.skatingfinland.fi/henkilot/rakastuneet-oona-ounasvuori-ja-roman-galay/ "Oona Ounasvuori and Roman Galay. In the relationship of figure skaters, the suitcase is always third". The relationship between two elite skaters from Finland, who also trained together during the summer camps, was important for Finnish figure skating.
Such information is also important for Wikipedia. For example, you can visit the page Carolina Kostner and read: "Kostner was formerly in a relationship with former Olympic race walking champion Alex Schwazer." Another example - Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: "She dated fellow Russian figure skater Andrei Lazukin from 2015 to 2020. This was confirmed both in interviews and on social media. The pair broke up in early 2020." - this is also the text from her Wikipedia page.
I think it would be right to publish deleted information about Roman Galay.

- Thank you for looking! I didn't think you owe me an apology though, we're all volunteering here. Happy editing! Vanderwaalforces (talk) 11:34, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

Figure skating at the 2026 Winter Olympics – Qualification
could you please be specific about your claim of original research, I can't see a single claim that is not sourced from the ISU rule book.18abruce (talk) 01:15, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- You are doing the work for them (based on your interpretation of the rules) rather than waiting for them to publish the results and quotas. Bgsu98 (Talk) 01:18, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- No, I am doing math, please re-read OR, specifically as it relates to simple math. If it is too complicated to do 20-10 than I would understand.18abruce (talk) 01:22, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- Already the math states very clearly that USA has qualified two pairs entries, and one to the later qualifying competition. The responsible thing to do, and the wikipedia direction, is to discuss the math.18abruce (talk) 01:25, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- So you stated, "my interpretation of the rules," and now you saying there needs to be more citations. Please take your time, read the sourced rules, and ask questions. Be specific, what is it I am interpreting? That sounds more like that you disagree with something and I would be happy to direct you to the specific rule that addresses your concern. I see that instead of participating in the discussion you re attached the tags, please take the time to discuss it if it matters to you.18abruce (talk) 01:47, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what the damn hurry is. You could wait for the ISU to publish the official quotas and then cite that as the reference instead of expecting readers to take your word for it. Bgsu98 (Talk) 01:58, 28 March 2025 (UTC)

Small dashes on results pages
I wanted to say thank you for fixing my mistake with the dashes on the "detailed results" section for a few of the skating pages. I've been trying to help convert a lot of pages to the new template format but I realized I've been using the wrong dash for the dates (short dash instead of the long dash) Legendofmv (talk) 15:52, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
- That is a very common mistake that I frequently make as well. Only recently did I realize that when editing in source mode, the en-dash is one of the characters along the bottom of the editing pane that you can copy/use! Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:59, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
- Ah, that's good to keep in mind, thank you! I usually draft a lot of edits (especially the template-heavy ones such as programs and results) in VS Code and then copy them into Wikipedia, but I'll definitely use that feature now! Converting to the new templates is definitely a tedious process but I kind of enjoy it. Legendofmv (talk) 16:08, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
