Mentorship
Hey, Awsomaw. Sorry, I didn't intend to ignore your message. If you're still interested, I'd be happy to help you out. Regards, Swarm talk 23:22, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
:Hey Swarm, thanks. I deleted my message because I really didn't know if I had time for a mentorship; not sure what it implies. If you can help me though, if you could look through some of my past edits that would be great, I have many questions regarding them.
- 1. I don't really know if what I'm doing is procedurally correct and stuff, maybe I should go on the talk pages of the articles before making big formatting and copyedit changes? I thought those articles were small so I didn't think many people would care, but again, I'm not sure if that's procedurally correct.
- 2. And after copyediting, I thought I've finished so I just popped the copyedit tag right off of the article, should I keep it there for other people to review it first? not entirely sure.
3. And lastly, I've been trying to read the deletion policy pages, but it's really complicated and difficult to read, even the Help: one... is there an easier way to explain it? Thanks very much if you answer this Awsomaw (talk) 00:27, 2 November 2018 (UTC)- I'm a big boy now! Awsomaw (talk) 18:08, 24 December 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Sovereign Grace Music
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Sovereign Grace Music, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Jalen D. - Sure, that's fine. It was a template that I've never had the time to research. It does meet criteria if anyone cares to make the article though. Awsomaw (talk) 23:51, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I left a note on the nomination page, and then went to the nominator's talk page to leave a note there. I wonder why your note on his talk page has the header "DYK nomination"? Did you use the special script located just above the edit window:
- {{subst:DYKproblem|Etienne Karita|header=yes|sig=yes}}
- That will provide a subhead which includes the article name. Best, Yoninah (talk) 23:07, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

DYK reviews
Hi, if all you do is add a source or do some copyediting to get an article ready for the main page, you can go ahead and approve the nomination. But if you add a lot of sources, or do serious rewriting, you should add your name to the DYK co-creation credits and call for a new reviewer. Does that make sense? Yoninah (talk) 21:23, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: It does. Just didn't know where the line is drawn, this explanation is clearer now. Thanks, Awsomaw (talk) 21:36, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Awsomaw! I noticed you were an instrumental editor in the creation of TobyMac's The Elements album article. He's one of my favorite artists, and he recently came out with a new album, titled The Lost Demos. I'm not in a position to write this article myself, I've only written a couple an joined about a year ago. I found some sources:

- @Dswitz10734: I'd be happy to make this article, but it'd be during my Thanksgiving break, so in three weeks. If nobody gets to it by then, then I can do it. But currently I'm bogged down with schoolwork, and as you can tell from my contributions page, I haven't done any major edits in quite a few months. Awsomaw (talk) 20:16, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News
Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Germ theory
In the article of germ theory of history section it's given that
===Ancient India===
In the Sushruta Samhita, a Sanskrit medical treatise written around the sixth century BCE, the ancient Indian physician Sushruta wrote the Nidána Sthána chapter on pathology theorizing that "leprosy, fever, consumption, diseases of the eye, and other infectious diseases spread from one person to another by sexual union, physical contact, eating together, sleeping together, sitting together, and the use of same clothes, garlands, and pastes."[1][2] whether the citation is relevant or not. - Okay? And what do you want me to do? The only time I edited that article was to remove vandalism. I'm not familiar with its contents. Awsomaw (talk) 14:49, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- I just wanted you to check the reference of the statement whether it is mentioned or not. David dclork li (talk) 14:51, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for the help
Hello Awsomaw, I've been pulling my hair all morning trying to figure out how to go back and add my edit summary to my change. I was in the process of explaing the copy/edit over to another page, when I hit the Return key, which seemed to publish the change instead of giving me a new paragraph :) I also tried to restore the content in order to start over, but as a new editor, I wasn't sure if I would mess it up more. So thank you for the notice and restoration. I will go back now and explain why I moved the sentence and its citations over to cyanobacteria, and why I felt it didn't belong on the Aphanizomenon flos-aquae page. I will also paste this response over at your talk page. I'm not sure if I sure respond both here and the talk page, so I'll do both. Again, thank you for this help. I'm excited to become a good member of the Wiki Editors. Braintoniq (talk) 18:18, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

- @AwsomawI appreciate a watchful eye, and to have met my first editor. Cheers. Braintoniq (talk) 20:13, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Braintoniq Good to meet you too. And also, I also sometimes forget to add an edit summary as well, and you can't change an edit summary after the fact, but I usually will go back to the page and add a space somewhere, and then write my edit summary that I forgot to write. That way people can still see why you did it. Awsomaw (talk) 00:55, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Great trick :) just add a space and comment on that! I will definite try that next time I mess up.
- There are a number of incorrect, outdated or misleading citation links in the few pages that I have knowledge in. I suspect this is common across much of the sciences. As an editor, is the objective to edit these with as much gentleness as possible? I suppose there are occasional disagreements, and just explain as thoroughly as possible and cite, cite, cite. Braintoniq (talk) 01:40, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- I would say that, generally speaking, you should be bold when editing. This does not necessarily preclude being gentle, but most pages lay dormant for years, so if you don't do it, no one will. Unless you are editing really popular topics that gets daily edits, the best strategy is just to go ahead and change and fix what you think needs to be fixed. Just always make sure to leave a reliable source and an edit summary.
- If you make a really large change to an article, sometimes it is good to leave a note on the talk page. Then your edit summary can be something like "moving this section to another article, see talk page for more details." Even when I do this to medium-trafficked articles, usually no one cares or responds for years, so long as it makes sense.
- And if you think that a major or significant change needs to be made on a really high-trafficked article, it might be good to start the discussion on the talk page. I generally don't touch those articles though. Hope this helps. Awsomaw (talk) 12:56, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for all of this. Onward! Braintoniq (talk) 16:37, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
