File copyright problem with File:MM Logo PNG.png
Thank you for uploading File:MM Logo PNG.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 01:56, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
The image I uploaded is a logo of the Ethiopia United States Mapping Mission, an organization that no longer exists. There is no copyright. I obtained the file from Lee Miller, the webmaster of http:www.ethi-usmappingmission.com, and he sent it to me in an e-mail with permission to use that image. What other information do I need to put in the copyright status? Bill (talk) 02:13, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- If you have permission to use the image, then you need to specify that in the image description. Also, forward the email giving permission to "permissions-commons AT wikimedia DOT org". More information can be found here. Thanks, and happy editing. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 02:55, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. The easiest solution is for the photographer to follow the WP:IOWN process to release the image. – ukexpat (talk) 03:21, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- As to your follow up question, I am afraid I don't have an answer for you. Even though I am a lawyer and dabble in copyright issues on Wikipedia, that is not my area of speciality. You will probably get a more meaningful response from the folks at WP:MCQ where I saw your original question. If you don't want to discuss it on an open forum, I would suggest e-mailing one of the regulars there. User:Quadell is particularly helpful but I have not seen him around for a while. Click on that link to go to his user page and click the "e-mail this user" link in the toolbox on the left-hand side of the page. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 13:45, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
