Who is The Last Auroch?
I became an active Wikipedia editor on May 21, 2018. I'm pretty new at this, so if I make any errors, contact me and I'll fix them if I can.
A technical writer by profession, I am primarily interested in readability, accuracy and other nitpicking. I intend to work on Wikipedia between contracts, as I've recently moved to working freelance.
I am a happily partnered mother to four nearly-grown children.
My goals for Wikipedia
I value transparency and a neutral point of view, and I'm here to help try to make Wikipedia more transparent, more accountable, and more neutral.
In short, I want to help to make Wikipedia a better, more reliable source for everyone to use.
Personal information
Education: Degree in literature and politics, and a postgraduate certificate in software engineering, I also have an undergrad background in sociology, psychology and biology, so I'm pretty diverse. I have a general interest in why and how people think the way they do, learning more about different perspectives, and how and why they clash.
Personal interests: New Zealand history (particularly the history of Dunedin), architecture, classical history, politics and linguistics. I teach coding to children as a volunteer part-time through a local computer club.
BDSM: Active in the local BDSM community and am Dominant. I don't switch. I enjoy playing with submissive men.
Entertainment: Hobbies include chess, scrabble, bananagrams and pretty much any other boardgames that come my way. Favourite television shows include the US version of Shameless and the new YouTube series Cobra Kai (which is terrific and well worth a look).
I adore Monty Python. Ni!
Activity on Wikipedia
Politics and Wikipedia: Politics has no role in most Wikipedia pages. To that end, I do my best to remove political bias (even when I agree with it!) and assist in developing neutral, fact-based resources. Personally I am a left(ish) leaning Libertarian, with some views that could be classed as conservative by those on the far left. So I suppose I'm fairly moderate. I try to keep my personal views OUT of Wiki, and remove, rather than instill, bias.
Fact-based editing: Truth and fact trump bias, every time. I value precision, honesty and clarity. The project of humanity is, for me, a continuing search for truth, meaning, and understanding. I'm a swinging voter with generally libertarian views and a strong dislike of authoritarianism and identity politics.
If I have a quote it is this: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
And my username? I take great delight in finding errors, and in fixing them. You do the math ;)
