Quarter Final Game- 8-0 win over Maples

One day removed from an 8-0 win over Maples, the ’95-96 Selects were back at it facing off against Stoneham in Haverhill on Monday March 30th. After playing a scoreless first period, Stoneham got on the board first midway through the second period when Alexander Sullivan tucked home a shorthanded goal. The Pirates’ defense and goaltending kept it close and the score remained 1-0 Stoneham, after two periods of play. After hitting the post earlier in the game, Portland’s Drew Lavigne broke the ice and evened the score at 1:09 of the third period assisted by Owen Lemoine and William Bauld. Later in the third with the momentum now on their side, Portland’s Lemoine scored at 5:31 from Bauld and Nick Manuel to give the Pirates’ their first lead of the game at 2-1. Lemoine added insurance at 8:46 of the third scoring his second of the game from Lavigne to give the Pirates’ the 3-1 victory. The win guaranteed the Pirates’ a place in the division championship game against Haverhill - Pentucket on Saturday April 4th at 2:40 PM in Haverhill. The winner of that game will advance to the Valley League Bantam Silver Championship game scheduled to be played on April 11 in Haverhill at 6:30 PM.
