Salvador Cristau Coll (born (1950-04-15) 15 April 1950 (age 74)) is a Spanish Monsignor, Archpriest and Vicar General who was appointed on 18 May 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Terrassa as the Titular Bishop of Aliezira.[1][2] He will be episcopally consecrated on 26 June 2010 at the Catedral-Basílica del Sant Esperit (Spanish: Basilica Cathedral of the Holy Spirit).[1]

Early life and education

Salvador Cristau Coll was born on 15 April 1950 in Barcelona, Spain.[1][3][4][5] He studied at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and in 1972 received a Bachelor of Civil Law degree.[1][4] Coll entered the Seminario Mayor de Toledo (Spanish: Upper Seminary of Toledo and graduated from the Facultad de Teología del Norte de España (Spanish: Theological Faculty of Northern Spain) with a Bachelor of Theology degree.[4]

Parish assignments

On October 12, 1980, Coll was ordained a priest in the Catedral Primada Santa María de Toledo by Cardinal Marcelo González Martín[1][3][4] for the Archdiocese of Toledo.[3] From 1980 to 1981, he was the parochial vicar at thes El Parroquias Buen Pastor and from 1981 to 1984 at Santo Justo(Spanish: Good Shepherd and Saint Justus Parishes).[1][4] From 1984 to 1985 Coll was the Parochial Administrator of the Parroquial de Santa Leocadia (Spanish: Saint Leocadia Parish).[1][4]

On 14 January 1985, Coll was incardinated as an Archdiocese of Barcelona and transferred as a parochial vicar to several churches.[1][3][4]

Diocesan assignments

Between 1980 and 1985, Coll served as the Judicial Vicar of the Toledo's diocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal.[1][4]

Within the Barcelona archdiocese, Coll has held several positions to include the Diocesan Curia, Archpriest of the Cathedral and Secretary Chancellor of the Curia.[1][4]

In 2004, after the erection of the Terrassa diocese, Coll was incardinated as a prelate and was appointed as the diocesan vicar general.[1][3][4]

Episcopal career

On 18 May 2010, the Apostolic Nuncio in Spain announced the appointment of Coll to the Conferencia Episcopal Española (Spanish: Spanish Episcopal Conference) at 12 p.m.[1][4] This followed the Pope Benedict's announcement at the Holy See earlier the same day.[4] Coll will be ordained at Terrassa's cathedral on 26 June 2010.[1][3][4]
