Why I am here
I spend half my time on wikipedia, right now i have 3 firefox windows with about 70 pages (almost all wikipedia) in them. I usually use wikipedia to actually look stuff up about the world but lately i've been reading lots of the wikipedia stuff about wikipedia itself, policy and problems and so on. I'm usually on IRC and it fascinated me how similar they are - the same trouble with vandals and trolls and clashing egos. But it has to be said, wikipedia is a heck of a lot more useful! It's amazing how something so great and comprehensive can come from thousands of people.
What finally got me to sign up and change something was I was showing my best friend a wikipedia page, and she'd never seen wikipedia before, and she clicked edit to see what happened, with slightly unfortunate results. I was hoping my wikipedia debut would be with some great sharing of profound human knowledge, but it looks more like my role will end up being that of a WikiGnome seeing as most of what I know, I learned from wikipedia :P
