When you revert IP vandalism...
...like you did four times today (thanks!)... why not leave a message on the IP user's talk page? Just paste the following onto the vandal's talk page:
==July 2009==
{{subst:uw-vandal2|<<name of article that was vandalised>>}} - ~~~~
This warning tells the vandal that their action has been noticed. If the IP user is a persistent vandal, the warning is the first step towards a WP:AIV block. - Pointillist (talk) 22:39, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- I know I probably should do that. I used to all the time. Once I see them vandalise, I try to keep an eye on the IP user for a short while. If they continue then I start leaving messages. In my experience, they usually vandalise as some sort of test then stop, but of course, many continue and get blocked. DVD 23:12, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Help with indexing
Does anyone know if placing {{NOINDEX}} on my user and talk pages noindexes all the subpages or do I have to place the noindex on each of them? DVD 00:35, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Just the specific page, I'm afraid - so yes, you'd need it on any that you don't want indexing. Chzz ► 00:40, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! I mostly wanted to noindex my talkpage archives. DVD 00:42, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Bit related to Vesnin brothers
I was wrong writing that "Arcos building was not built". It was built in 1927-1928, but not to Vesnin's design:
NVO (talk) 19:03, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- It's ok to be wrong every once in a while, I know I am. The picture and the correction are nicely done and make up for it. Though it wasn't the Vesnins' building; judging by the picture, it's still quite impressive. I'd like to know more about Mayat now that I've seen this. If you don't mind me saying, you are a good candidate to be writing books. You've already written a book's worth here, and have so many photographs. Maybe you like writing on the internet better though. DVD 01:53, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi DVD, I wonder if I might trouble you to read this little section on Giano's page about improving the architecture article? I think really what's needed is some input to get a good heading structure, after which I'm fairly confident the article will pretty much write itself - any news, views or opinions? --Joopercoopers (talk) 20:54, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for stopping by. To be honest, I have trouble focusing on architecture anymore. But since you asked I'll take a look and get back to you soon, if replying in a few days is ok. DVD 21:39, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- That's a terrible shame! What caused that? I seemed to have terrible pains getting into architecture as a student, but once it got it's claws in, that was that. Sure, as long as you like man. take care --Joopercoopers (talk) 21:41, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- Even though only involved for a short while, I got sort of burned out on architecture. Yet my interest is still off and on sometimes still at intervals. I expect that you can make an amazing article out of what is already there. Like I said though, I have to attend to some other stuff at the moment, but can read up and reply as soon as I can. DVD 22:44, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- After two days of thought, I still have no ideas on how to improve the article - not meaning that I don't think there are any, just that I don't have any at the moment. The topic is too much for me now. I wish you success with it though. DVD 22:10, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- No worries - thanks for your thoughts. --Joopercoopers (talk) 23:32, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Resignation
I notice you've resigned as an administrator. Thanks for all the hard work you've put into the site over the years. You're one of the good guys. =) Master&Expert (Talk) 03:53, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks.DVD 06:07, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
I second the comments by Master&Expert. Didn't follow your resignation or the reasoning behind it, and could use being informed, but whatever the case, I hope you continue to edit Wikipedia as a regular, and contribute further to articles, especially about Israeli architects :) Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 22:17, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- I just felt like I wasn't doing enough anymore. Been spending much more time reading than editing lately, mostly adding interwikis while I read. Maybe I'll ask for my sysop bit back one of these days. Yes, there are quite a few Israeli architect pages I'd like to contribute to! But I can contribute to them without being a sysop-- though first I need to learn more Hebrew, which I'm doing slowly. Thanks for the message. Best, DVD 23:35, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry to see this, but all the best anyway. Kind regards --Joopercoopers (talk) 00:09, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
- This isn't worth being sorry over! Really, it isn't :) Thanks for the message though, DVD 00:29, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Re: Architecture
The article seems like a great start! If some structure is added, it's a definite DYK candidate even in its current form. As far as buildings go, I'm waiting for someone to create an article about the Green House in Jaffa :) More generally about Israeli architecture... Bamahane recently ran an article on an architect from New York coming back to Israel to become an architect in the army, I skimmed the article and found nothing interesting, but will read it again and make sure to tell you if there's anything you might be interested in. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 23:07, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- I believe that Beit Weizmann would be consistent with other similar articles on Wikipedia, although I can't think of any articles at the moment. Either that or Weizmann House. My brain isn't thinking too clearly at the moment, so you might want to look at some articles on buildings in Israel... Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 03:06, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

this was deleted by you, can you tell me why? There is a redlink to it in the article it was in. User:Pedant (talk) 02:07, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'd undelete it for you but I'm not a sysop anymore. The reason I listed in the log as you may have read is that it was lacking license info. I should have deleted the red link but I didn't. Try {{ImageUndeleteRequest}} and go from there :) Sorry! DVD 02:14, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- I went ahead and placed the undelete request for you. Happy editing, DVD 02:28, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Currency
Spooky re. the time! Hmmm 14,832 pounds 80 pence. Today you'd write it £14832.80(p) or £14832=80(p) on cheques (the p is optional). But it's pre decimalisation so there's an argument for losing the decimal point. In old money I think the convention was to write out the pounds shillings and pence (LSD) so £14832 0s 80d would be correct, but we've been decimal since the early 70s so even I, now approaching middle age, was taught decimal at school and there's a risk plenty of readers won't understand. I'd plump for £14832.80p. --Joopercoopers (talk) 12:10, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Hebrew Wikipedia adding characters to outgoing reference links
Hey DVD, Since you offered, I figured out I could use some help :) Would be kind of you if you could solve this problem for me -
I created [1] a Hebrew Wikipedia page, and somehow external links get the characters "%E2%80%8F" added to them at the end. Which makes a great part of them not accessible by the browser. This issue has allready appeared in the Hebrew Wikipedia Helpdesk, with no answer.
Thanks! Pavner (talk) 20:25, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hi again Pavner! I see what you describe in earlier versions of the page, but it looks like someone solved it, no? I don't know what causes that to happen, sorry. Best, DVD 21:30, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

- I see what you mean. Sometimes left to right and right to left encoding has bugs or needs getting used to when ltr and rtl systems are both used. I made a temporary fix. Let me know if your browser views the page better now. DVD 23:40, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, now it works. NVO (talk) 03:00, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
P.S. Nikolay Lvov is now live, you wanted it - you fix it! :)) NVO (talk) 20:13, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'd seen that you had red-linked Lvov before somewhere, so thought you might eventually write his page, and was reading about how he had translated Palladio--that's the main reason I mentioned him. Your page is better than I expected--way better than I (or most anyone else) could have done. The article doesn't need much fixing in my opinion. It's tremendous, as was your Basil's cathedral page! DVD 23:44, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Just found a paper on the 1798 translation of Palladio in Russian. NVO (talk) 05:06, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Ray Eames
The article Ray Eames has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- I can't see any evidence of individual notability of Ray outside the well documented partnership already reflected at Charles and Ray Eames. Suggest restoring as a redirect.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Flat Out let's discuss it 04:30, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts
The article Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Article was previously entirely a copypaste from their website and should probably have been speedy deleted. Now the copypaste has been removed there is nothing of significance left. Though the Foundation is mentioned online by various bodies that have received grants, I can see no jounralistic or book sources that could be used to expand the article. A city organization only, time for it to go, fails WP:GNG.
