Vandalism
When I patrol the recent changes, I try to use a reasonable criteria for deciding what to do. I will escalate from level 1 to level 4 usually, but sometimes I will go straight to a higher level:
- Level 1 – Assume good faith.
- I'll use this for a first warning unless it merits a more serious note (see below)
- Level 2 – No faith assumption
- I'll use this after level 1 or if the edit is obnoxious/insulting.
- Level 3 – Assumes bad faith; cease and desist
- After level 2, or for nasty editing, racial abuse etc. I will also use this level if there is a comment left that shows good faith was definitely not intended.
- Level 4 – Assumes bad faith; strong cease and desist, last warning
- After level 3
- Level 4im – Assumes bad faith; strong cease and desist, first and only warning
- Almost never use this, would have to be really bad.
I hit re-load on the recent changes page and I rarely look at obvious vandalism as there are people with tools like huggle watching all the time for that kind of thing. Instead, I try to look for more subtle vandalism, or to clean up honest edits that have been made with poor grammar, spelling or meaning! If anyone would like to say something nice about that, feel free but I think I've been flying under the radar since I started this.
