Born Emmanuel Malabo Makasa Mwenda on December 08, 1972 in Solwezi District of a Kaonde father from Chief Mumena and a Bemba mother, Emmanuel is the sixth born or eleven Children. He was born and raised a catholic starting his early childhood as an Alter Boy of the ABC club and going onto the Franciscan Minor Seminary in Ndola at the Franciscan Centre. He started his school in 1981 at Kasapa Primary school at St. Dorothy Mission in Cheif Kalilele's area and moved to Solwezi Primary School in grade three in the year 1983 when his father, a chief catechist retired and resettled in Solwezi. He went on to junior secondary school at Solwezi Day Secondary school from 1988 -1989 serving as a School Prefect, and Kansenshi Secondary School in Ndola from 1990 to 1992 again serving as School Prefect and Head boy of the Minor Seminary at Franciscan Centre. In 1994, Emmanuel then moved to the Zambian Capital, Lusaka where he enrolled in the School of Natural Sciences at the University of Zambia, Great East Road Campus where he spent two years and then moved to the School of Medicine at Ridgeway in 1996 where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology (BSc.Hb) in 1997. Dr. Emmanuel Makasa graduated from the University of Zambia School of Medicine with his MB.ChB degree in the year 2000 and went on to work for the University Teaching Hospital until 2011. While at the University teaching Hospital Dr. Makasa worked as a Junior Resident Medical officer (March 2001 to September 2002), Senior House officer (September 2002 to March 2003), Registrar in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery (March 2003 to December 2010) and then he was promoted to the position of Senior Registrar in Orthopaedics and Trauma at the same hospital after his MMed(orth) clinical Maters Degree. During the same period, Dr. Emmanuel Makasa obtained an MPH in International Health and Global Studies Epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he studied as a Fulbright Scholar and did an internship with NASA under the DEVELOP National Programme at the Marshall Space Flight Centre. He moved to the Ministry of Health Headquarters at Ndeke house briefly working as acting NCD specialist and letter he was promoted to the post of Deputy Director responsible for Emergency Health Services in May 2012 and by September 2012, he was sent into diplomatic service as Counsellor-Health at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations and other International Organisations at Geneve, Switzerland where he is currently based. Dr. Emmanuel Makasa also served as Secretary Geneva of the Zambia Medical Association (ZMA; December 2006 to August 2007) and as Secretary General of the Surgical Society of Zambia (SSZ; December 2011 to September 2012) and he is a Member of the College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA). He also still serves on the Boards of Doctors Outreach Care International, Africa Directions and is a trustee at the Lusaka Orthopaedic Research and Education Trust (LORET) and is a honorary Lecturer at the University of Zambia School of Medicine and a visiting surgeon on the FLYSPEC Programme. Dr Emmanuel Makasa is also the founding President of the Zambia USA Exchange alumni (ZUEA), a founder member of the Network of Southern Africa-USA Exchange Alumni Associations (NSAUEAA) and the African Network of US Alumni Associations (ANUSAA)
