User:Riposte97 Let's discuss here, since Talk:Donald Trump isn't really concerning itself with this template. I've restored the old photo again for the reasons stated, and since your edit summary didn't really explain why the more recent portrait is better for this format. Cremastra (talk) 16:43, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the image should be used here for the same reasons it has been used at the main page. What are the ‘reasons stated’ you refer to? I will refrain from reverting for now. Riposte97 (talk) 00:08, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The reasons I stated in my edit summary (better for this format, in short), and the fact that I don't believe what happens at Talk:Donald Trump will or should affect this template, since this is a sidebar and it's an article.
We should add new portrait because it is updated and using 2017 is outdated. the main article already added new portrait. And I added a cropped image of the new portrait similar to current cropped image of the 2017 portrait. RealStranger43286 (talk) 03:06, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@CGP05 @Stranger43286 @AnotherWeatherEditor Because, while the 2017 portrait is "older" it is actually better for this format, since it'll be viewed at a low resolution. These images need to be identifiable and clear. The 2017 portrait is all those things, whereas the recent one has bad lighting and a highly unusual face position and expression which may work at higher resolutions but isn't suitable for this format. We're under no requirement to use the most recent portrait of the subject – this sidebar is about him, not just his current presidency – but we should use the better one. Compare the two images below. The second one is clearer and recognizable: it looks like a normal portrait: the subject is smiling and standing straight through moderately bright, diffused lighting. It is recognizable as Trump. The first image, however, has very unbalanced lighting and a glowering facial expression which makes the portrait less clear, sharp, and immediately recognizable at these resolutions.
I dunno, I think the newer one is a better representation of him as he is now and is actually sharper and more detailed. The one on the right is a bit washed out PackMecEng (talk) 17:38, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
