Talk:Siamese Dream

POV?

"This technique is extremely tedious and time-consuming, but, as one who listens to the album can instantly tell, it is well worth it as it creates a very slick, full sound that cannot be achieved through other means."

That seems a bit off to me. How about we leave it to the reader to decide whether it's "well worth it"? — TheJames 00:16, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, this artical has a lot of POV making Billy look like an egomaniac. The truth is, although Billy did have most control over the band, it was blown very much out of proportion by the media at the time. A good example of it being how Billy recorded all the guitar tracks. It wasn't because he was a control freak, it was simply because he wrote most of the songs, (He did co-write Mayoniase with James Iha, something overlooked in the artical) and it just would have been easier to record. Ok, then, I've talked too much. -- Underwater 01:37, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Billy really was kind of an egomaniac during the sessions. There's a Guitar World interview that I sourced in the main article about the band where it's revealed that one time after Jimmy got high Billy forced him to perform the drum tracks for "Cherub Rock" over and over again until his hands bled. Cover girls

should it be mentioned that the pumpkins are now looking for the two girls that are on the cover?Dizzydark 18:00, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a source for that? Why are they looking for them? For a follow up of the cover perhaps? :) -- Cambrant 23:39, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One rumor that circulated at the time was that the girls were Katie and Eilish Holton, a pair of Irish Siamese twins who were separated, causing one of the twins to die. This is definitely not the case - in fact, you can see on the back cover that the girls aren't conjoined at all - and perhaps the article should be altered to make this clear. Ravenclaw (talk) 12:29, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Entire paragraph about "layering"

""Layering" is a technique in which a sound is recorded multiple times and the sounds are "layered" on top of one another so that they are played at the same time. It is the recording equivalent of an orchestra, except only one person is needed for the particular instrument to be layered. This technique is extremely tedious and time-consuming, but, as one who listens to the album can instantly tell, it is well worth it as it creates a very slick, full sound that cannot be achieved through other means."

Is this little foray necessary?

No. We could just say "overdubs". WesleyDodds 02:32, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sound Clips

Does anyone have any information about the sound clips that appear after some of the later songs on the album? They appear at the end of songs such as Mayonaise and Spaceboy. Debaser23 19:55, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have a citation, but I remember reading that the clip that ends "Spaceboy" came from a source that Billy Corgan was unwilling to name, for fear of lawsuit. It sounds like a woman commenting on the love life between her and her boyfriend, to me. 65.248.164.214 (talk) 20:45, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Singles

Is this section really necessary? Even if it is, it seems really unnecessarily detailed - I've never seen a section like this in an album article. -Werideatdusk33 05:43, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

D'Arcy Wretzky & James Iha

Why aren't D'Arcy Wretzky and James Iha listed under "Personnel"? Mathias-90 (talk) 22:01, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Er, they are... What I'm wondering is, who plays the tubular bells on "Disarm". Or is mentioning who plays miscellaneous instruments on every track too much detail? 84.198.246.199 (talk) 23:45, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All of the credited musicians from the liner notes are already listed. If you can find a source for who played the bells, go ahead and add that info. My money's on Billy. hbent (talk) 21:53, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2011 Bonus Disc tracklist soruce

The track list was leaked by a guy by the name of Monte. Monte is friends with Billy and the Band. He also runs the fan blog Crestfallen.com, which Billy has appeared on many times within the last month. The band is a having fan meetings through out the tour to talk about the Record Club and the re-issues. A Gish tracklist is also shown in the picture, but the lighting is bad. So getting accurate results right now is hard. The release dates for both reissues is November 29th of this year BTW. Link343 (talk) 01:56, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why Does Soma Have An Article?

Not only is it a stub, it's nothing that couldn't be said in the Siamese Dream article. I think this calls for a merge. --Mrmoustache14 (talk) 20:17, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Error in "Composition and lyrics" section

This section includes the following sentence: '"Spaceboy" was written as a tribute to his autistic half-brother, Jesse.'

The source for this does not contain any mention of Jesse being autistic. Jesse's disabilities are described thus:

"Jesse was born with mild cerebral palsy that caused him to walk on his toes, and Tourette's syndrome (a neurological disorder that can cause nonsensical or uncontrolled speech). He also had heart problems and a chromosomal disorder that caused him to be slower than the other children."

I edited the section to remove the word autistic. 77.22.207.156 (talk) 20:50, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
