Talk:Sam Hornish Jr.

Why 'Junior'?

Why is Sam Hornish called 'Sam Hornish, Jr.' Of course, because his father's called 'Sam Hornish', too, but Senior didn't race, did he? So there's no need to distinguish Junior from Senior by adding 'Jr.' to his name, like in Al Unser, Sr. and Al Unser, Jr. et al. Just curious. Lustigson (talk) 15:49, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

@Lustigson: His birth name is "Sam Hornish, Jr." and is reflected as such in the title of the article. Throughout the rest of the article, however, we are allowed to omit the Jr. Hope this makes sense, and apologies for having to wait 93 months to get a reply :) --Bentvfan54321 (talk) 17:22, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speed

Does anyone know what Hornish is doing as an analyst on Speed this year? 192.154.63.77 (talk) 03:55, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Best Finish/Top 10

If in the Sprint Cup series it says his best finish was 28th then hwy does he have 9 top tens? --InformationContributor11 (talk) 10:31, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Because the infobox shows the best finish in season points, not best finish in an individual race. - The Bushranger One ping only 14:33, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace

It says in the first line of the article he was born in Defiance, Ohio but in the template box on the side of the page (beneath his picture) it says he was born in Bryan, Ohio. So which one is it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:3BA7:F70:C06E:A0E:550A:F56C (talk • contribs)

It's Defiance, per the Penske Racing reference. --Bentvfan54321 (talk) 17:20, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lead section

  • Hornish's birth place should be omitted from the first sentence in the lead.
  • You should remove the source after Hornish's birth place in the first sentence in the lead and put it at the first instance it is used in the article's main text.

Early career

  • I think you need to explain who Mike Shank is.

IndyCar

  • Hornish had four, and Wheldon two;. Remove the semi-colon at the end of this sentence.

NASCAR

  • "Hornish was collateral damage" - This should say "Hornish sustained collateral damage"
  • "Since Tony Stewart was only eligible to score points for the Sprint Cup Series, Hornish was the series points leader after the Daytona race." - I think you need to add that Stewart was the winner of the 2013 DRIVE4COPD 300 race.
  • All mention of 10th, 11th and 12th should be spelled out.

References

  • Reference 107 redirects to the iRacing.com main news page and not to the intended article which no longer exists. Please archive the original link if possible.
  • You should link publishers of the sources like USA Today, The Indianapolis Star and The New York Times

@Z105space: I've been told elsewhere that linking EVERY source in the Ref section constitutes as WP:OVERLINK. If you insist, I'll do it, but I've only done so on the first instance for repeated works and publishers. Also took care of everything else. Let me know if there are any final things. Thanks, --Bentvfan54321 (talk) 18:41, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Bentvfan54321: Linking publishers is only required for the first instance but avoid linking them in every source. Other than that, I can pass this as a GA. Fantastic work! Z105space (talk) 18:49, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
