Talk:Road toll (Australia and New Zealand)

Move proposal

I have just been through all the inward links to this article and about 90% of them were actually intending to link to articles about road pricing or Toll roads. There are now only three inward links, all from New Zealand or Australia.

I suggest that this article is moved to Road safety in Australia/New Zealand or similar and one using the conventional styling for 'Australia and New Zealand'.

This page should then be converted into a redirect to Toll road.

I think something more sophisticated than a move is needed here. Road toll is now a disambiguation page and Road toll (modern) redirects to Road pricing. Road safety redirects to Road traffic safety, which primarily discusses how to make roads safer but does include a section on mortality that has an OECD table with one line dedicated to New Zealand. Road deaths in India is a redirect to an article about Traffic collisions in India. While Traffic fatalities or Road trauma both redirect to Traffic collision which has a section about fatalities.
I cannot think of any reason why I would want to talk about deaths on both Australian and New Zealand roads without first discussing all the Australian state and federal jurisdictions separately from New Zealand. The article is mostly about New Zealand in any case, with what little it says about Australia is probably best moved to other articles, or else is trivial and might be better left unsaid.
So call a shovel a spade and move (just) the New Zealand section of the article to List of motor vehicle deaths in New Zealand by year to be consistent with the other articles that are called List of motor vehicle deaths in a country and not worry about discussing road deaths in Australia because it is discussed elsewhere. Then Road_toll_(Australia_and_New_Zealand) can be turned into a disambiguation page to direct all those road toll links to articles about road pricing in either Australia or New Zealand whilst pointing out that the phrase Road toll has an entirely confusing and ambiguous meaning in Australasia, and offer a list of choices to point the reader in the right direction.
After that we can discuss the fate of the New Zealand section content, because currently the New Zealand section of the article seems to be seeking to do multiple things, so could benefit from a bit of rethinking about its purpose under a new title, in an article all on its own. - 210.86.82.145 (talk) 20:46, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why are Australia and New Zealand combined?

If it's for comparison, the article lacks the narrative. Even the first graphs don't represent the data in a way that can be compared without further reduction. I don't believe there is a valid reason that is not parochial.

I recommend for deletion as it is included in "List of toll roads". 121.74.83.150 (talk) 20:24, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Split

Someone does not realise that Australia and New Zealand are two separate countries separated by the Tasman Sea. There is separate laws for the two countries 121.98.204.148 (talk) 02:06, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
