This is a very good, comprehensive article. It needs just a few tweaks to achieve good article status:
The first paragraph under Route description: the word "Maintained" is used in virtually every sentence. Is there another word that could be used here, for variety?

You might want to mention somewhere that NY 17 is becoming I-86 shortly; I had to look through those article to determine if the intersection of NY 96 and NY 17 had yet been redesignated as I-86. This is made doubly confusing by the map in the infobox, which shows the Southern Tier Expressway as I-86 on both sides of the intersection with NY 96 but doesn't even sign NY 17.

Ontario County: Is there a historical reason for the cloverleaf between NY 96 and NY 14? Often I've found the reason for an overbuilt intersection is because a highway was once intended to be there, but was canceled.

- I highly doubt anyone will ever find the reason, if one exists. Based on topo maps, it was converted into an interchange at some point between the early 1950s and the late 1970s, meaning finding any coverage of the conversion is highly unlikely. If I had to guess, I'd say the interchange was built because 1) NY 96 runs across significantly higher terrain than NY 14 does and 2) the state once thought that the number of travelers heading from the Thruway to NY 96 south would eventually overwhelm that part of NY 14. I say NY 96 south here because this is roughly the point where NY 96 stops paralleling the Thruway and makes its southern turn into the Finger Lakes region. Based on what I've seen over the years, the latter situation isn't happening anytime soon. – TMF 11:10, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Northern terminus
It's unclear whether the northern terminus has been truncated from East Main St. to the Inner Loop. Route logs from 2004, 2009, 2012 and 2017 all show "Inner Loop" as the terminus, but contemporary inventory files show it as East Main St. The 1970 route log shows US 15 (South Ave. at the time) as the terminus, and it's possible that a route log after 1970 changed the terminus to "Inner Loop", referring to Plymouth Ave. (which for a time formed the western side of the Inner Loop). In other words, NY 96 may have been extended along Main St. to Plymouth Ave., where it would have met the eastern terminus of NY 33 (already given in 1970 as "Inner Loop").
In short, it isn't evident from the route logs that the terminus of NY 96 was recently, if ever, placed at the eastern edge of the Inner Loop—and even if it was, the Inner Loop no longer exists at that location, so the terminus would need revision anyway. ESRoads (talk) 15:52, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
