Naga Babu
@Fylindfotberserk The MOS:NICKNAME seems to talk about common English-language hypocorism (diminutive or abbreviation)
; in the note followed, refers to a name frequently used in English-speaking countries
and asks to [a]ssume that most non-English hypocorisms are not familiar as hypocorisms to readers of the English Wikipedia, even if well-known in their native culture.
Based on this I think Naga could be put in the quotes as Konidela Nagendra "Naga" Babu — DaxServer (t · c · m) 18:22, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- @DaxServer: Well, the last time I edited the page [1], it was Konidela Nagendra "Naga" Babu. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:33, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Pinging @Ab207 since you changed it ;) — DaxServer (t · c · m) 18:36, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- I think it should be mentioned as it may not be obvious to global audience. Heck, I couldn't fathom how Bill can be a nickname for William, or Ned for Eddard. -- Ab207 (talk) 18:40, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Apparently, Bill is a short form of William (I assumed it'd be Will, how dare I ?) and Ned seems to be a variant of Ed, both of which are short forms for Edward. — DaxServer (t · c · m) 18:48, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- @DaxServer: Yeah 'Will' is also a diminutive form of William. Also 'Jack' is for John. I had an interest in these since childhood . - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:55, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Anthroponymy is indeed a peculiar subject! Interesting category: Category:Hypocorisms
- @Ab207 Looks like you have a hypocorism as well, but not @Fylindfotberserk and myself :P — DaxServer (t · c · m) 19:22, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
