English Jesus "quote"
"If English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it ought to be good enough for the children of Texas."
The veracity of this quote was questioned on another message board. Is there a way to confirm it? I've googled, but found nothing concrete.
- The citation given at wikiquote:Miriam A. Ferguson is [1]. Not a terribly great one, but I also wasn't very successful with google. — Laura Scudder | Talk 22:18, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
- These guys did a lot of research which makes a very strong argument that the attribution to Ma Ferguson is erroneous. I was just going to remove the line with the quote, but now I am thinking maybe it's better to add the contrary source and point out the very likely mis-attribution in case other folks get here researching the quote. So I am going to do that now. --Danny Rathjens 23:04, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- Is there a cite for the thing about subsequent governors opposing the teaching of foreign languages in public schools? That sounds pretty cray, but maybe it's true. HowardW March 3, 2007
- Seems unlikely given sheer odds on the number of governors since then. It was introduced by an anon recently without explanation, so I'm removing it. — Laura Scudder ☎ 04:05, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Should be mentioned on the article, since the story was widely circulated... AnonMoos (talk) 12:54, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- Why are the governors of America saying such dumb things? salon.com87.164.126.8 (talk) 15:42, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
"…rumors persisted that pardons were available in exchange for cash payments to the governor’s husband."
Yup. My granddad took the fall for a bank failure in the Depression, and the family scraped together the money to buy him a pardon. No sources, just had to throw that in here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.103.165.36 (talk) 18:13, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Sealtexas.jpg
Image:Sealtexas.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
