Aside from being archaic, it didn't refer to the state, but the entirety of olden Northwestern Mexico, including the Great Basin. 'The Californias' is still a bit poetic, but sounds better than 'California and Baja California.' -LlywelynII (talk) 19:32, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
