CPACF
CPACF isn't really new with z14 but has been around since the z890. With each model, new ciphers and larger key length are supported. "CPACF is a set of cryptographic instructions available on all CPs of z990, z890, z9 EC, z9 BC, z10 EC and z10 BC." [1] Asymmetric encryption is done through CryptoExpress cards rather than the CPACF function on the PU.
While we're at it, maybe the full name CP Assist for Cryptographic Functions (CPACF) should be mentioned as well.
Compression and expansion are not done by CPACF. The only built-in compression support is through Compression Service Call (CPMSC) instruction that implements LZW compression through a dictionary prepared in advance. The zEnterprise Data Compression card (zEDC) is used for zlib compatible compression.
