Flickr
It seems every supporting ref in the criticism section is a report on, and specifically discussing and noting, this page:[[1]]. How then, could the page itself ever be considered not notable? 76.202.249.62 (talk) 06:34, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

We don't use Flickr, as it isn't reliable; however, the image is notable, and various news outlets have recreated it in their reporting of MS' cock-up. We can use those, instead. Commercial/Images on a mac
This is inconsistent information. The images could very well have been screen shots taken and copied into Photoshop on a Mac. Obviously, Photoshop would not be used for video editing, as it's a still image editor. Looking through MSDN can reveal that alot of Microsoft employees support both platforms fairly equally as well (Often times, code snippets for OSX appear here as a comparison between the Windows/Mac way). Either way, it should be noted that there's no proof that the videos are made on a mac, just the screenshots/photos, as this is incomplete information. ThymeCypher (talk) 11:50, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Criticism section
Is this really needed? Most, if not all, of the section seems to be basically some sort of attack because the campaign used Macs or people with Apple products. To the first: to be honest, the Mac is the OS of choice for graphics designers, and I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft's advertising division has a few Macs; and the second point is even worse! Especially in the case of Ms. Longoria and Pharrell, their celebrity status, especially among the 13-24 demographic, means they have to be somewhat fashionable. If I were a celebrity, I would have a top-of-the-range phone like the iPhone, not a Nokia 3310. Sceptre (talk) 13:42, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
- Oddly enough, Yes. This is the part that has the notability, not the ad itself. The ad itself is rather a mundane flop. It's the sensationalized controversy over a Windows commercial being produced on a Mac that makes this campaign notable. That being said, I agree 100% with your assessment and I think the Criticism section is still too big when compared to the rest of the article. For example, it's as big as the rest of the article. How silly it is to use the celebrity presence to blast the producers (hey, an endorsement is an endorsement) doesn't matter, that's what the articles are criticizing them for. Remember, this isn't our criticism, it's others criticism that we are presenting. If others are silly, we can't help it. Padillah (talk) 14:31, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

- To be fair, the ad campaign is not noteworthy, the criticism is (and the tag and edit-war are out of line). Of the 6 refs 4 are regarding the controversy (such as it is) and 1 is a simple reprint of an e-mail auto-response (the other is the blog which I can't access from work). I'd have no problem supporting a merge with the "Mac Vs. PC" article as a "Controversies" subsection. But the criticism (or facets thereof) should be kept, they are the only notable coverage the campaign has gotten. However, it looks slanted enough as it is. If this were presented in the context of a Mac-centric article it would end up completely one-sided. Do you think WP:Weight justifies an entire article? Padillah (talk) 19:03, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

- To me it seems that section is way too big for what it contains : Microsoft hired advertisers and they used Photoshop on a Mac. Woaw. Big Deal.

- Are we going to list every single time a Microsoft employee or one of their contractors used an Apple software or device ? And vice versa with every Apple employee using a PC software/hardware ? That's total Bravo Sierra, if you have a tool, and need to use it, you just pick it up, do your job and go home with your paycheck enjoying the night with your loved one.

- Aw come on, having an Apple product doesn't imply you MUST use only Apple product and boycott PC products ("eww my hands could get dirty if I touch a Windows-running computer"), these celebrities are not Apple's zealots at all, in fact they DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT IT :
- => They want a computer, so they go to the store (or use the phone or internet) and buy a PC (because it's the first one on the shelf), then they notice one of their friend have a Mac "ho it's kinda pretty, the user interface looks nice", so they get a macbook/iphone/etc. What's the big deal behind this ?! "Woaw you drink Coca Cola and Pepsi too ! this is not possible!"

- Imo 2 sentences maximum would be plenty enough, like "Trivia : the images for that campaign appeared to have been made with Photoshop Apple, while some of the celebrities hired for that campaign use Apple products too". That's it. That makes you smile and that's largely enough for Wikipedia.

- I think the origin of this misunderstanding comes from the fact that a minority of Apple product users believe that since the millisecond they gave their money to the clerk or to the online store for their Apple product, they instantly became member of a "private gentlemen club", the "Mac users" : pulling jokes about Windows with a wink and helping each others like a band of brothers against the ignorant-masses PC users. It's just marketing. Don't bring that on Wikipedia please.
- nb : (FYI) I own, use and maintain several desktops and notebooks (me, family, close friends), from the 90' to nowaday, "Mac" or "PC", Mac OS/Windows/"Linux", some of them "right out of the box" and some of them I fully assemble myself, and they're all the same stuff : tools. T-O-O-L-S. Like a freaking pen or a screwdriver. Stop being religious nuts about your computer bloody hell D:

"Mac Vs. PC"
In the third paragraph: "The $300 million dollar advertising campaign was designed to challenge Apple's "Mac Vs. PC" campaign"... shouldn't the "Mac Vs. PC" part be replaced with "Get a Mac"? Biased?

The “I’m a pc” girl
I’m genuinely just curious, but who is the “im a pc” girl (aka Kylie) in the windows 7 commercials? She was at the windows 7 launch event and starred in some commercials, and then that was it. She just seemingly vanished. Generallynotexsisting (talk) 10:00, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
