Talk:History of Texas forests

Name concerns

Dr. Blofeld proposed changing the article name to "Forestry in Texas" with the explanation

move to more appropriate sounding encyclopedic name

While I certainly am open to proposals for new names, this proposal does not describe the topic for several reasons:

  • This article is about the history of the forests in general, not simply about the history of forestry.
  • The article heavily covers the lumber industry which definitely is not appropriate to lump under the heading of "forestry" (i.e. some people might even consider that offensive).
  • The proposed title does not address the fact tht it is a history article. As such it is misleading.
  • Generally speaking it is standard practice to name a history article "History of X". This, of course, is not mandatory but it is helpful for WP to try to be consistent wherever it is reasonable to do so.

In any event, please do offer suggestions if you feel this name needs to be changed. One caveat: This is up for DYK right now so how 'bout we discuss before making radical changes like that?

Nice job

I'd like to see the Lost Pines have its own article, personally. — e. ripley\talk 18:50, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. There are a lot of details in here that could be expanded into their articles. --Mcorazao (talk) 20:28, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
