Explanation?
I don't know if anybody has an active interest in developing this article further but one thing that seems to be missing is a motivation for the construction of the waterway. It may be obvious to those intimately familiar with the subject but, to the average reader, it would not be obvious why you would undertake such a monstrous effort to build a canal so close to the Gulf of Mexico when, in theory, ships could just use the Gulf. It is worth going into a little bit of the practicalities of shipping and navigation so that the reader understands the subject matter better (not a detailed explanation but just a paragraph or so).

Length
Obviously the canal extends much more than just to Carrabelle, Florida, but many more kilometres to the south, doesn't it? See also List of movable bridges in Florida. Dionysos1988 (talk) 21:37, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
