Introduction section

The introduction section sounds like it's copied straight out of a guide book:

"Please note that there might be changes in the timing as per the season."

I think some should be transferred into the opening paragraph and history while deleting the scheduled times all together.

Is it Harmandir or Har Mandir?

I don't understand why sometimes it's one word? I mean if one guru's name is Har Rai. Or Har Krishn. In Hinduism they might say Har Ram. Or Har Krishn. Or Hari OM.....So....Why is the Temple not Har Mandir? Why is it one word like like then Harmandir? I mean im not trying to fight. Im asking. Ive tried figuring this out before to. 71.105.87.54 (talk) 19:29, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

This is another reason why I hate wikipedia. I can't make changes cus they tell me its not allowed and if i want to make changes then I should post it on the forum. So I post it on the forum and no one replies then. 71.105.87.54 (talk) 08:35, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
The spelling in Punjabi/Gurmukhi script is of one word, not two seperate words hence "Harmandir". Regards --Sikh-History 09:16, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Ok so how come some of the Gurus names are seperated with two words? I don't get why sometime's it's one word and sometime's it's two then? Is it just the preference of when a person or subject was named? If please you don't mind me asking then here then ? 71.105.87.54 (talk) 00:57, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Some people write them like that, but undoubtedly it is one word for Harmandir. Thanks--Sikh-History 11:27, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
So there is no offical way ? ? 71.105.87.54 (talk) 07:01, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Completed in 1604?

From what I can gather, the temple was destroyed by Ahman Shah forces in 1757. Even this article states that it was "substantialy rebuilt" after this event. Therefore I believe this warrants mention in the facts posted under the picture. " Built; 1585-1604,destroyed and substantialy rebuilt;1757."76.166.245.241 (talk) 16:01, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

opinion quote about Bhindranwale

I support the removal of the quote cited to this article. I do think the source belongs.

I propose to drop the quote, which is far too POVish to be used in that way, wp:BALANCE would require a long discussion here that surely has been carried out in articles about Blue Star, Sikh separatism, etc. If not, then it should, IMO, be addressed there.

I think the facts are clear: he was there, accused of terrorism, resisted arrest for same. The opinion about whose fault that was, whether he was guilty or not, right or wrong, etc. seems offtopic to the temple article. I will make this change, just once, as a proposed compromise. I don't plan to become involved in the editing of the article, and will not be watching. I encourage you both to discuss here before reverting any further, but you are of course free to wp:edit war until article lock or account block.- Sinneed 19:36, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good. My problem from the beginning was solely with the edit, never with the source. If this was understood earlier this conflict with SikhHistory (who I consider a good editor otherwise) may have been averted.3swordz (talk) 04:15, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
This is not a conflict. The reason you cited was becaus eyou didn't agree with the quote. Sineed has cited it as being offtopic, which has been discussed in the correct manner. Happy Editing --Sikh-History 12:43, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
The news source was fine, the politician's opinion was simply not quotable as fact, as was being done in the edit. Yes, it was indeed POV, that has been settled.3swordz (talk) 08:15, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi 3 Swordz. I think you will find 100% of references that are added are POV. The issue here is that it was wp:off-topic. Thanks--Sikh-History 09:18, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
*sigh* i was referring to the opinion being POV, jeez. but the matter has been resolved perfectly, whatever.3swordz (talk) 09:51, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Recent events

These links seemed unnecessary, I've saved them here if someone wants to get information from them and incorporate it into the article.

  • I think that the in popular culture section should be removed. I'll remove them if there are no comments here in a few days. Also, was there any reason that the picture from the infobox was removed? Gsingh (talk) 17:02, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Sarovar

About the phrase, "The temple is surrounded by a large lake, known as the Sarovar, which consists of Amrit ("holy water" or "immortal nectar")", is this Sarovar classified as Temple tank (kalyani)? Is the word "Sarovar" only related to Sikhism and only to this temple? Wiki-uk (talk) 09:45, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Sarovar refers to the holy body of water, its a Punjabi word, it is not only specific to the Harmandir Sahib. Gsingh (talk) 02:57, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
