Someone doesn't know the difference between "its" and "it's"

The article is locked and I can't fix it myself, but someone who is able to edit the article should: there are a bunch of "it's" that needs to be "its". /IT'S/ KILLING ME!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.137.241.78 (talk) 14:47, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Small Typo?

Someone with edit access want to look at this?

"announced on his Twitter page that God of War III has seamless loading. Meaning there is No Loading screens and No HDD installation requirement."

Shouldn't this say "Meaning there are"? Maybe I'm just grammar nazi'ing, first time I read the page but its locked, so...

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.68.106.131 (talk) 13:30, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Simon Templeman, the voice of Kain from Legacy Of Kain series is also doing voice-over in this game. I'm not sure what his characters name was but its the guy you get the BOW OF APOLLO, I don't know if his Apollo or not, but he is a prisoner in Hades level, Kratos has to burn him alive to get the BOW OF APOLLO, due to hi, being trapped. 98.164.224.193 (talk)

Christer Ericson's Tweet about No Loading screens and no HDD Install

"Downloadable Demo" section, showing that how many ways users could have gotten the e3 2009 demo

Also added that the game has gone gold in the main part and added Review chart for PSM and PSM3.

Release

There should be no release date added until after E3 2009, when one will be announced by Sony. --EclipseSSD (talk) 13:29, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yesterday Sony, in announcing KillZone 2 stated that GoWIII would be a Q4 09 release. That's not exact but that's better than TBA. (See [1]). I'm sure a more exact release will be announced at E3. --MASEM 13:32, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I saw that before, didn't think much of it. It does seem to set GoW III a 2009 release, so yeah. That's probably reliable enough.--EclipseSSD (talk) 13:48, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actual Gameplay Footage

I'm bringing this up again because the footage actually, really is not gameplay footage! None of the links or references actually confirm that it is, only rumours and unnoficial sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fred Burma (talk • contribs) 18:17, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stop being a Xfart Fanyboy. It looks like gameplay footage its not Killzone 2. Your just a fanboy —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.164.199.99 (talk) 23:04, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a fanboy by any stretch, actually. In fact, I own a PS3 which is why I was annoyed when I watched the 'actual gameplay video' only to discover that it wasn't. You can tell because there is no transition between animations, as there is in the E3 footage. I'd also thank you to refer to the Wiki guidelines when attempting to articulate an opinion without resorting to needless accusations and empty insults.--My name is slim Davey 20:01, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

March 2010 is Q2 not Q1

The release date was changed to Q1 2010 by somebody citing an article saying it may be released in March of 2010. The nearest Q1 is fall of 2009, Q2 2010 includes the first few months of 2010. This is financial years, not normal years.24.65.95.239 (talk) 01:13, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the release date to correspond to the IGN page cited as it is more reliable than the other.24.65.95.239 (talk) 23:23, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Release Date

IGN now says Q4 2009 (UK), since the United Kingdom fiscal year starts at the start of April, that would suggest it may be released December 2009-March 201024.65.95.239 (talk) 19:52, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cross Platform

I hesitate to even ask this because it's essentially the worst kind of hearsay but it would be important to the article. A friend of mine mentioned that the game will be cross-platform soon after its PS3 launch. I can't find anything about it online though. Anyone else heard this? If so, we need to find a reliable source. OlYellerTalktome 01:20, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The game is being published and developed in-house by SCEA itself. I very highly doubt it will go cross-platform, as that would pretty much kill the ability to sell their own console through the enticement of this game being an exclusive. SpaceCow4 (talk) 08:22, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, it's akin to (and as ridiculous as) saying the Halo series is coming to PlayStation 3. 62.56.112.164 (talk) 22:49, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fireemblem555 (talk) 22:28, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It should stay as March 2010. From Wikipedia:WikiProject_Video_games/Article_guidelines#Release_dates:

For unreleased games, vendor sites should not be used as verifiable sources since their date is likely based on their best estimate of when the game is to be out; always look for corroborating statements from reliable sources to confirm these dates.

There have been no corroborating statements from reliable sources for March 16, 31, etc. Therefore, please keep it as March 2010, which is the most accurate date.24.80.177.235 (talk) 01:04, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I guess I can respect that. But on Amazon they say "This item will be released on March 31, 2010. Pre-order now!" Which seems like more than an estimate. That or they're being wildly irresponsible.Fireemblem555 (talk) 02:57, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for being reasonable. 24.80.177.235 (talk) 01:46, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking around online and I found a site that says God of War III will be released in Japan on March 25, 2010. God of War III Release Date Confirmed for Japan. It will also be bundled with God of War Collection in Japan. That isn't the only site, by the way, there were others as well, I just grabbed that one. JDC808 (talk) 09:48, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well there's no more to debate on this. It's official, the North American release date is March 16, 2010, European release date is March 19, 2010 and the Japanese release date is March 25, 2010. Sources are on the page by the release dates in the infobox.JDC808 (talk) 19:36, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see VGReleases in WP:VG/RS, and I don't recall Sony making an official announcement of the EU release date. What makes this site reliable? --The Taerkasten (talk) 16:33, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that they got their information from reliable sites, like GameSpot. I've put the GameSpot source on the page. JDC808 (talk) 19:20, 4 February 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.71.208.105 (talk) [reply]

Demo section

I think the demo section should be merged into development section or marketing subsection, it shouldn't really have its own subsection, it seems excessive in the way it describes every detail of the demo. I don't think there should be too much coverage on the demo, however it can be mentioned in the marketing section.--The Taerkasten (talk) 16:39, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The demo section is both unsourced and unneeded. Detail is too excessive. It shouln't have it's own section, and can be easily merged into development section, which in itself could use a trim. --The Taerkasten (talk) 22:53, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, the Demo section is gone and merged into the Development section. I've also tried to edit the entire Development section, and personally, I think it reads better than it previously did, mainly because I tried putting like things together. So it's like, at this time the developers said this, but now they're saying this. When the game releases, the Development section can be trimmed down much more, because things that are said that might, or might not happen will be known and we can trim down a lot of that kind of stuff when it is known. JDC808 (talk) 18:15, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'd say this article now looks pretty good, in comparison to some other near future release articles. By the time of it's release, this article will already have a large amount of good information. --The Taerkasten (talk) 20:44, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese publisher update

According to Japanese GOW3 site[2] both the regular and Trilogy edition are published by SCE. Only the God of War Collection disk contained in the Trilogy edition is published by Capcom.

Capcom Japan's release schedule [3] indicates it's only releasing God of War Collection on March 18 2010.

Amazon.co.jp is also listing SCE as the publisher for both editions of GOW3. The box art [4] shown does not contain the Capcom logo.

Name of Game Engine

The name "Enhanced God of War II Engine" is misleading. Since there is no name for it probably, we should call it the Santa Monica Studios God of War In-game engine.TurKadir20 (talk) 16:11, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you. For one, it's not an Enhanced God of War II Engine. It's a completely new engine that Santa Monica has built from the ground up. I have changed the infobox from saying "Enhanced God of War II Engine to "Santa Monica's God of War III Engine". I've also provided a source from IGN that says the engine is a new built from the ground up engine. JDC808 (talk) 17:29, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm doubtful about that, source please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.124.237.109 (talk) 15:02, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The source was linked right at the end of that sentence, btw. Since you didn't notice that, here's the source. God of War III eats up 35 gigs on a Blu-ray disc JDC808 (talk) 15:41, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

When you click through the link on destructoid to mtvblog there's no mention of Gaiai's nose. The only source is an image on the destructoid page saying 'gaia's nose 1 gig of textures', which could easily be a joke. 213.107.3.137 (talk) 21:44, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Because apparently, they're going to do that right? JDC808 (talk) 14:35, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Don't be rude. Absolutely they'd do that, it's called making a joke. It's quite obvious, Gaia's nose being 1 gigabyte is simply a joke caption for the picture. How would that be possible if the whole game is 35 gigs? The sentence should be removed from the article. BeowulfGamma88 (talk) 22:58, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Plot Update

The game is out and someone already finished the game on youtube. The plot can now be expanded upon. Heres the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9JYYlWTqPU For some reason though you have to subscribe to see parts 6 and up of the walkthrough. As much as i hate to sound like a 4chan troll trying to get subscribers, who ever is update the plot will have to subscribe to the uploader till someone else uploads the walk through on youtube. I'll check the gow wiki and see if they have the plot section already updated. 74.234.21.245 (talk) 20:35, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well whoever added the plot that is on the page now did a great job. I think it could use a little more expanding, but it's still great. JDC808 (talk) 16:45, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What about what happens after the credits finish? The trail of blood being led from the spot Kratos "died"? Could have been mentioned... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.206.249.71 (talk) 21:32, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is an error on the Plot subheading, third sentence. It says As Gaia tried to climb back up, Kratos began to slip on her back. Gaia stated that she cannot help him with both of them falling.. Please fix this as soon as the writer read this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamesnhong (talk • contribs) 23:20, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I meant there's an error in After defeating Poseidon, Kratos and Gaia reach Zeus, only to knocked off Mt. Olympus by Zeus' lightning bolt.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamesnhong (talk • contribs) 23:22, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm currently expanding the plot to include more detail (but not all details), in order to flesh out the story more instead of having one long paragraph. It's currently around 600 words, which is pretty short, but I think it retains the detail needed for the story. I'm going to post it after I proofread it, which will take about 15 minutes more. (Deftonesderrick 19:04, 18 March 2010 (UTC))[reply]
In the second sentence of the plot it should also mention Helios among the gods assaulting the titans. Ricomoss (talk) 19:46, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AH! I knew I forgot one! Thanks! (Deftonesderrick 20:10, 18 March 2010 (UTC))[reply]
Great job on that! I only edited one thing which was where you had it saying Gaia stops the fight and swallows them. I changed it to saying Gaia tries to kill them both, in which they both jump into the whole that the leviathan attack at the beginning of the game caused. JDC808 (talk) 21:12, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nice addition. I went in and cleaned up the grammar and just said they jumped in a hole in her neck. The leviathan isn't mentioned anywhere else and since Gaia is a Titan (not exactly human), now one will really question why there's a hole near her neck. I also try to avoid "at the beginning of the game" kind of language, it's better to try to keep the synopsis moving forward. Thanks for fixing the swallowing thing though, I beat it last night and some of it is kind of a blur! (Deftonesderrick 21:40, 18 March 2010 (UTC))[reply]
I've cleaned up the Plot Summary further as there was still some poor grammar; key events missing; names out of sequence and some unnecessary extrapolation. 125.7.71.6 (talk) 03:58, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And I cleaned that up as it had sentence structure problems, grammar errors, repeat statements, and hyperbole. (Deftonesderrick 17:54, 25 May 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Resolution

The game box says 1080i, so I am adding that, if that;s not a good enough reference I do not know what is.Fireemblem555 (talk) 22:46, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That just means it supports it, but the native resolution is 720p. However, we can add that to the development section if anyone thinks it's needed. JDC808 (talk) 16:43, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So the resolutions on the disk are not ever more than 720 vertical lines? If so I guess that makes sense.174.3.107.124 (talk) 06:59, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar in Caption

"The labyrinth from which Kratos must save Pandora." Let's get those preposition rules under control, people. This is fourth grade stuff. 66.134.4.226 (talk) 17:51, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cast

Linda Hunt is not the voice of Gaia in this one, unlike what is listed in the cast section. Linda Hunt only supplies a quick narration at the start of the game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.234.198.98 (talk) 18:37, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism

Just wondering if the reception section needs any criticism of the game. Portillo (talk) 07:05, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If there's been any, sure. Reach Out to the Truth 14:01, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is a little bit of criticism there as we speak. One of them says that the story didn't blow them away. One says that two of the three extra weapons were pretty much the same as the main blades. Another found a mini-game inappropriate. It's not a whole lot of criticism, but there is some for the time being. If you can find any reviews that really have criticism and you think they should be added, go for it, or ask about it here and we can discuss. JDC808 (talk) 04:16, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Game trailers on the discs?

Mine's from New Zealand which I assume is the same as the Australian version, and I haven't been able to found any of those trailers mentioned in the article (the ones you supposedly see under Video in XMB when the disc is in the PS3 machine). I searched a bit on the internet and I also saw other people saying they also had those. I suspect those trailers are only available in the U.S. version. Can those with the Australian version please confirm whether they can see those trailers? If so, how so? 219.89.222.175 (talk) 14:46, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It might only be on the North American version. We can change that to accomodate so. 129.71.208.91 (talk) 16:37, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I havent seen the trailers either. Portillo (talk) 01:26, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Voice cast

I think the fact that the voice actors all have articles; makes it notable enough to add a cast. Portillo (talk) 12:15, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is one, bottom of the article. --MASEM (t) 13:19, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I re-added that. It had been removed. Portillo (talk) 14:01, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was actually thinking about doing this the other night, except I was going to get all of the names that are actually listed in the ending credits of God of War III. I just did that a little while ago (wasn't signed in when I did it), and Linda Hunt only narrates the pre-title screen opening credits. For some reason, they listed some characters that don't appear in the game, like two of the Sisters of Fate, and for some reason they have a Special Thanks to Elijah Wood. Don't know what that's about. JDC808 (talk) 17:25, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There's two big issues I see here - one is that there are a lot of "Green Soldier #4" type entries in the table. Point out the notable characters, but don't give us the pointless extras that they voiced. Secondly, it's a table. Use this as an opportunity to build a merged Character and Cast section, similar to the example found in WP:GAMECRUFT point 10. This gives the reader both background on the character and gives information on the voice actor, plus it kills off a crufty-looking table. --Teancum (talk) 13:09, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Only notable characters and voices should be added. Portillo (talk) 11:52, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Elijah Wood is given a special thanks because he voiced Kratos's brother, near the end of the game after the ghost of Zeus kills Kratos, when he falls into the red pond you will hear voices. If you listen long enough you will Elijah say "A spartan never lets their back hit the ground right, bother." and "Don't leave me, Kratos!" I hope someone will add him to the voice cast. Although that may be true, it's still not notable enough, becuase that is a very minor role. 129.71.208.91 (talk) 14:53, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kratos' Wife / Lysandra; also a note about Calliope

As some of us know, in the comics for God of War, Kratos' Wife's name is revealed to be Lysandra, however, in God of War III, her name is not mentioned whatsoever. Even in the credits, it lists her as "Wife". Someone reading this article who would look at the Voice Cast would wonder, who in the world is Lysandra and what is her role in this game? They would not make the connection that she is Kratos' Wife without looking at the List of God of War characters page.

Also, in regards to Calliope, yes, there is an Ancient Greek female named Calliope, however, the one previously linked is not the Calliope in the God of War games. It's a completely different Calliope. Linking to that Wikipedia would probably confuse someone reading this article. JDC808 (talk) 17:09, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Voice Cast - Prose or Table?

So, I've gotten annoyed with that prose tag on the Voice Cast section. Do you guys think we should do it as a prose like the tag suggested, or leave it as a table like I've recently fixed? Oh, and I removed the prose tag, for now at least. JDC808 (talk) 17:49, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cast lists: Generally speaking, a list of the actors providing voices for video game characters is not appropriate. Exceptions to the rule would be games where the voice cast is particularly notable, such as actors reprising their roles in a video game translation of a movie, as in the case of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In this case the character cast follows the general standard for listing a movie cast, with minor adaptations for the game's article. However, if characters are listed in a table, cast should not be listed separately. If actors/actresses must be added to the article, typically they should be done in the article prose, and generally in the development section.

In this case a movie-style cast setup would be best. "Notes" should be replaced with a brief bio of the character, along with any info related, such as a change of voice actor. See a GA movie article like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for a template. The term "Voice Cast" should be replaced with "Characters". The focus of the section should be on the characters rather than the actors, thus the change. --Teancum (talk) 21:01, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We once had a movie-style cast setup but it still got the prose tag. So should we do it like the movie-style, or should we change the "Notes" to "Brief Bio" and do what you said? JDC808 (talk) 15:34, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not a cheap, list of names movie cast, a cast section seen in Good Articles. See the Transformers link I posted before. --Teancum (talk) 23:13, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I redid it like the one on the Transformers page. Should anything else be done, or is it good as is? JDC808 (talk) 21:08, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ugh - someone changed how the Transformers article looks. Here are two examples of what a cast section should look like Iron Man (film)#Cast, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine#Cast. A good video game example is X-Men Origins: Wolverine (video game)#Characters. The title of the Cast section should also be changed to Characters. Hopefully that helps things. --Teancum (talk) 21:48, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll get on that. I'll use the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game as the example to use. JDC808 (talk) 18:27, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User: 125.7.71.6 and WP:OWN

I would like to address the issue of the recent edits made by User:125.7.71.6 in regards to this article. Several well thought and valid edits (not just made by me) are simply being reverted in a manner similar to WP:OWN. Several editor's contributions have been perfectly valid and at least warranted discussion here before reversion to 125.7.71.6's version of the edits. I invite 125.7.71.6 to come on here and discuss this further as well as anyone else that wants to put in their two cents. (Deftonesderrick 16:53, 26 May 2010 (UTC))[reply]

I'll throw in my two cents. I've actually been editing while not being signed in which you'll see my edits as 173 or 178 or whatever the IP you'll see in my sig is. I've noticed 125 will revert edits for "poor grammar" and instead of fixing the grammar, 125 just completely wipes out the information that is of good use. Also, in regards to his claim for a game having "Universal Acclaim". Universal Acclaim does not mean 100% from every reviewer. Look on this page for more regarding this [5] Universal Acclaim on Metacritic means a game has scored between 90 and 100 (based on the total reviews of the game) and I believe this works the same way with GameRankings. JDC808 (talk) 173.81.132.218 (talk) 01:12, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I already was here as I mentioned the changes in the Plot Summary section. I've tidied more of the Gameplay section (which unfortunately was a mess with no logical structure) and incorporated some of the suggestions made into the Plot section (adding mention of Hera) without slipping into colloquial language ("along the way") or retaining unnecessary fragments ("fights Zeus on a balcony").

As for the "universal" claim, if it is between 90-100%, then by all means, keep it.

125.7.71.6 (talk) 04:57, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"After an encounter with the Three Judges of the Underworld and witnessing the Chain of Balance that maintains the equilibrium between underworld; Earth and Olympus and a conversation with the spirit of a small girl (later revealed to be Pandora), Kratos recovers the Blade of Olympus." THIS is what I'm talking about. 125 reverts edits for this nonsense? The entire sentence, first off, is entirely too long. Second, what is with over use of semi-colons? Did you (125) mean to say between "underworld, Earth, and Olympus"? This kind of editing is prevelant throughout the summary. One last thing, "incorporated some of the suggestions made into the Plot section"; an edit isn't a suggestion. I'm still seeing issues with WP:OWN here, no matter what anyone seems to edit, 125 will simply revert as they think their edits are somehow "better" than others. I agree with JDC, in that 125 claims bad grammar and then completely wipes out the information that is of good use. (Deftonesderrick 17:20, 27 May 2010 (UTC))[reply]
Okay so going through this again, here are the problem areas that 125 keeps reverting:
"God of War III picks up immediately after God of War II. Kratos stands on the back of the Titan Gaia, as she and the other Titans climb Mount Olympus to assault the Gods of Olympus." "After the credits, Kratos's blood is seen trailing off the edge of the nearby cliff, with the Blade of Olympus lying abandoned. Kratos' final fate is unknown." There is absolutely nothing that says we have to keep a plot summary inuniverse, actually it's quite the opposite, read WP:INUNIVERSE. If it helps the reader understand what is happening (directly stating it takes place immediately after GOW2) then it should stay. Also, the scene where Kratos is missing from the cliff is after the credits, so it should state that in the summary. See the Iron Man plot summary as an example.
"Hades, Helios, Hermes, and Poseidon launch a counter-assault..." These keep being reverted to have semi-colons next to each name when it should stay with commas. Each god is not a seperate thought or subject, rather, it is a list of the gods that are launching the counter-assault.
"his death causes the oceans to flood." This keeps getting reverted to "huge flood". As far as 125 not wanting colloquial language, I would say "huge flood" would fall into that category.
"After Kratos converses with the spirit of Pandora, he then recovers the Blade of Olympus." This is being reverted to what I mentioned in my last post.
"An angered Athena pulls the sword from Kratos, and, after stating that Kratos has disappointed her, departs." This is reverted to "advising" rather than "stating". What she says is a statement, not advise. She doesn't advise Kratos, she states her contempt with his choices.
Most of 125's edits have merit (I left a lot of what was written as of their last edit), but there are some grammar, style, and sentence choices I would say do not warrant being re-added in. (Deftonesderrick 17:57, 27 May 2010 (UTC))[reply]
Hmmm...a tad condescending...but I have compromised, and made some more tweaks. Got to keep early mention of the Three Judges and Hephaestus doesn't help Kartos initially. 125.7.71.6 (talk) 02:56, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I'm not being condecending, I'm making a case for the improvement of the article, that's how it's done. Also, you're still reverting well written material. You've restored at least 2 of the problem areas again. (Deftonesderrick 18:02, 28 May 2010 (UTC))[reply]

I think we're getting too far in the weeds here. There are only 5 really important characters here: Kratos (duh), Athena, Zeus, Gaia, and Pandora. Who fells to Kratos' blade doesn't matter in the overall plot; including that makes it excessively long. However, with our prose section for characters, we can at least assert what role that character played (alive or dead) beyond the key elements of the plot. --MASEM (t) 18:21, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

David Jaffe's Version

According to David Jaffe in an interview with Geoff Keighly from Gametrailers.com, he originally had his own version of God of War 3, where Kratos would kill Zeus at the beginning of the game, which would create a vortex which would suck all the other mythologies into one world, where Kratos would ultimately stop people from believeing in these gods which would bring the end to the old pagan religions and begin the new age of religions (Christianity in particular), where the ending of the game would have you play as the Three Wise Men. Other ideas that were hinted in this version would've had Kratos use the Medusa head to freeze a monster which ultimately became the Sphinx and Kratos sacrifising himself to live with his family in Hades. [6]

I would like this on the page as it will allow people to see what God of War 3 was originally intended to be, it should be in the development part of the page —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.153.235.67 (talk) 06:32, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I support this. David Jaffe is the series creator, GoW3 differs significantly from what was intended for the conclusion of the series. Jaffe's version is relevant information. 84.56.60.167 (talk) 17:53, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Original Plot

Please share your opinion on the "original plot" section (relevance, wording). User IP 125.63.xxx / 125.7.xxx always deletes it instead of improving it, stubbornly referencing "poor grammar and weak, colloquial language". User repeatedly insults other editors in that fashion (evident from his history). I am not a native speaker, so I would appreciate neutral, unbiased feedback on the quality of the "original plot" section. Thank you all. 84.56.59.199 (talk) 09:42, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the section, for quick reference:

According to series creator David Jaffe in an interview with Gametrailers.com, his vision of God of War III was significantly different from Asmussen's version. In Jaffe's version, Kratos would have killed Zeus at the beginning of the game, creating a vacuum of power over which the gods of all the world's mythologies would fight (Jaffe specifically mentions Egyptian and Norse mythology). Kratos would get the gods to fight against each other, taking their minds off the people on Earth. People would begin to suffer and stop believing in these gods, which is, according to Jaffe, the only way to permanently kill a god. Thus, Kratos brings an end to the old religions and sets the stage for the new religions, with the Three Wise Men following the North Star as controllable characters at the end of the game. Before that, Kratos would slit his wrists with the blades of chaos (with the player mimicking the move using the sixaxis controller) and descend into Hades to live with his family. Another idea that was hinted at in this version would have had Kratos use Medusa's Gaze to freeze a boss monster which would ultimately become the Sphinx in the Egyptian desert.

P.S. It seems that user "Spartancourage" exhibited the same behavior and edited the same pages; he was deactivated for being the new account of user "Asgardian" who was banned for one year. Can someone please look into this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.56.59.199 (talk) 10:04, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A trimmed version is actually in Development, just minus the "floating" grammar. Also not seeing how there are insults in there, or how you get that there are multiple persons involved! However, we can add another sentence to expand on things a tad. 60.241.188.222 (talk) 07:52, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Elijah Wood cameo

In regards to the recent edits involving Elijah Wood and his cameo as the voice of Kratos' brother, it should be mentioned at which point in the game his cameo voice occurs. There is no mention of who all speaks during the time when Kratos is within his psyche, other than the mention of him having help from Pandora. To just say Elijah Wood has a cameo as Deimos leaves the readers left out in the open without anything to go off of in regards to when Elijah Wood has this cameo. Fifth or Sixth?

The opening paragraphs alternately refer to GoW III as the fifth and sixth installments in the series. Which is it? 216.239.66.140 (talk) 18:30, 6 February 2011 (UTC) Almo[reply]

GOW III is the sixth. The order is Chains of Olympus; God of War; Ghost of Sparta; Betrayal; God of War II and God of War III. Hope that helps. Thebladesofchaos (talk) 10:43, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the opening paragraphs do not refer to it as the fifth and sixth installments (read carefully). It refers to it as the fifth installment (meaning the fifth released game in the series) and the sixth chapter (meaning it's chronologically the sixth game in the series). Re differences([7]):

  • The revised plot in the lead is clearer, spelling out in a concise order events. "reascends" is awkward.
It was in a clear, concise order. How is "reascends" awkward? It means to climb again, which is what he's doing. JDC808 (talk) 18:44, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "repeated returns back to Mount Olympus throughout the game" - same.
You're not understanding the difference here. OlympIA and OlympUS are not the same, and you are making them the same here. JDC808 (talk) 18:44, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Characters" : one small tweak and a non-issue.
I wouldn't consider that a small tweak. The parenthesis are unnecessary and break up the prose of the section. JDC808 (talk) 18:44, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A-Class assessment

Requesting assessment for A-Class. --JDC808 04:51, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've just begun a copyedit. The article (what I've seen so far) is very good, but before you try to take it any higher it needs better sourcing. Per WP:V, all quotations require inline citations; also, the awards the game has received seem too vague. All the best, Miniapolis (talk) 16:53, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For the quotations, where exactly are you referring? --JDC808 23:10, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The lead (for both the quotations and the awards). While there's attribution for the quotes in the sentence, WP:V specifies, "All quotations and any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, must include an inline citation that directly supports the material". FA is pretty exacting, and the reviewers may pick up on that. As for the awards: "It has received several awards, including the Most Anticipated Game of 2010, Best PS3 Game and Best Graphics; Kratos received the "Biggest Badass" award" doesn't indicate who gave the awards. I'll get back to the copyedit tomorrow after work (I'm up to #Development). All the best, Miniapolis (talk) 03:34, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that the lead didn't require citations as it's cited later in the article? I have quoted text on another article's lead that passed FA and they didn't require me to cite the quote for that reason. Those particular awards are from Spike's VGAs. --JDC808 06:47, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In #Development, does HDD refer to High definition display or Hard disk drive? In either case, I think it should be wikilinked. All the best, Miniapolis (talk) 22:18, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hard disk drive. --JDC808 06:47, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And in #Marketing, what is a "virtual shirt"? Miniapolis (talk) 02:21, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's just meaning it's for the player's PlayStation Home avatars and not a shirt you could go and buy at Walmart. It can be removed if it seems unnecessary. --JDC808 06:47, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Latest edits

There seems to be some blanket denial re: the need to correct material in the Settings and Characters sections. Settings is for just that, a brief listing of locations without subjective phrases (e.g. who says the Forum is most frequently used by Hercules?) and weak, unnecessary sections (e.g. civilians living in areas and "are attacked by enemies"). This isn't good writing or what constitutes an encyclopedia standard article.

And...monsters belong in the Characters section, as they are a variation of just that - not locations. It is somewhat warped overanalysis. Bluerim (talk) 23:26, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You fail to understand things. This is also explained on the Chains of Olympus talk page, but I guess I'll explain here as well. The Setting section is not "a brief listing of locations". It's to describe the environments from which these games take place. The inclusion of the monsters help describe what's found in these environments. The Characters section is for characters that affect the plot, not common enemies. And please, don't ridicule others writing when there are many errors in your own. --JDC808 23:32, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It can be rationalised that the monsters can be listed at the end of the Settings section, which atill works minus the subjective and unnecessary descriptions. That said, I've made the change, and also restored a few other changes that were necessary. I would ask that you refrain from any more blind reversions. If you have any questions please ask here.

Bluerim (talk) 04:52, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First off, please let a discussion finish before making reverts. You have a very bad habit of not doing that. On to the issues. The monsters should be listed with the locations that they are found in, not tagged on to the end of the section. I explained what you like to claim as "blind reverts" at Ascension's Talk page and being that you were the one who took a 3 month editing break, you should be the one asking questions before making questionable changes as a lot has happened in your absence. --JDC808 05:17, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that someone has had a break is neither here nor there. People are free to edit at any time. Regards Bluerim (talk) 05:25, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"neither here nor there", what does that even mean? That contributed nothing to the advancement of this discussion. --JDC808 05:32, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just that. People can edit at any time. No one has ownership over an article and people can edit after months of inactivity and make valid contributions. As to the article, you're actually the one who keeps hitting the reset button to the time before any changes were made to your preferred version. As to Setting, you need to understand that it can't read as a subjective travelogue, which is what it was previously.

Bluerim (talk) 09:20, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, people can edit at any time, but that doesn't mean you should come back from months of inactivity, chop away and remove content from an article that's been worked on during your inactivity, and not expect opposition to your controversial changes. The reason I've reverted you to the "preferred version" is because it has far less errors and inaccuracies then what you've been doing. If you cannot see the errors in what you're doing to the second paragraph of the lead alone, I don't know what to say because they are glaringly, blatantly, in-your-face obvious. As to the Setting, what exactly is subjective about it? I give you maybe Hercules, but that's the only thing that could be considered subjective. During your inactivity, I learned through an FAC process that readers want more and need more to understand what's going on, especially non-gamers. --JDC808 09:42, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Budget
