"Foreing Volunteers"
There is a section that talks about foreign volunteers of the far-left and mentions the "Communist Party of Ukraine and labor organizations". I think it would be good to add at the beginning that these were local volunteers ComradeHektor (talk) 17:48, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Liu1126 (talk) 23:56, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- Currently, there is no such list available online, or openly available, where it states a list of foreign mercenaries who have died during the russian ukrainian conflict 2022-2023. To list sources, you will have to add some 170 links. its possible to do. will take time.
- again, not one news source will state all these names with dates.
- So, the specific changes, to answer your question: A list of foriegn mercenaries who have fought, and died in ukraine. Valcot2018 (talk) 02:39, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- The large flaw in the article is that only Georgia and Belarus is mentioned under the subtitle "Ukrainian side". Obviously the by far largest number of foreign mercenaries are from the above mentioned countries, such as USA, UK, France, Israel etc.
- Also NOT mentioned are military contractors hired by the Ukrainian government such as Academi, G.O.A. Tactical, the International Legion, nor is it mentioned, that Ukrainian oligarchs hired mercenaries to protect their financial assets. 77.11.120.67 (talk) 14:38, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
Incorrect date
The last sentence of paragraph 5 of the section "Russian side" incorrectly states that Nepal stopped issuing visas in December 2024. It should be fixed to January. 73.63.211.159 (talk) 12:45, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

Input on changing the ordering of the sides, and overall reordering of some parts
I think I saw similar parrarels for the article with the Boer foreign fighters units in that, it makes more sense to list Ukraine side volunteers first after the topic on the Donbass and the invasion rather than Russia first
The structuring of the chronology with in regards to foreign volunteers participation are also preferably restructured to make the invaded country be the main topic (since that's how it evolved now in regards to foreign volunteers joining) Benfor445 (talk) 17:52, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

There is a spelling error: Under the "List of notable expatriate units in Ukraine" section in the Pro-Russian units part it says "Pizrak Brigade" when the name is "Prizrak Brigade". ZDeight (talk) 10:43, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
Term "foreign fighter" inconclusive and not well defined. Should use "mercenary" instead.
Since the beginning of this conflict I've seen this term brought up in various news outlets and used here on Wikipedia, but I never found an actual definition of it. What exactly distinguishes a foreign fighter from a mercenary, and is that distinction of any practical use in a combat situation? Are foreign fighters protected by Geneva Conventions, for example?
If you look at the definition of "mercenary" at merriam-webster, you would find that a "mercenary: one that serves merely for wages, especially: a soldier hired into foreign service".
This definition goes in contrast to the United Nations Mercenary Convention, who have to fulfill multiple "points", if I understand correctly, including things like "(b) Is motivated to take part in the hostilities essentially by the desire for private gain and, in fact, is promised, by or on behalf of a party to the conflict, material compensation substantially in excess of that promised or paid to combatants of similar rank and functions in the armed forces of that party" and "(d) Is not a member of the armed forces of a party to the conflict;"
However even this extensive definition is not satisfactory. When it comes to the treatment of POWs, it is difficult to determine how much salary they were paid and whether or not their units were part of the "official" army, if that makes any sense at all. I observed most often in this war, the distinction was made by the passport the captured combatant had. So if anyone is reading this, feel free to share your opinion. - Foreign fighters are not necessarily mercenaries. A mercenary is fighting because they're being paid. A foreign fighter can be voluntarily fighting. There is a rich history of foreign fighters in various conflicts (e.g. Spanish civil war) and this term is widely used (see a Google Scholar search, [1]), so I don't see a problem.
- Here are some citations specifically using "foreign fighter" as a term in the Ukraine context: doi:10.31374/sjms.151, [2], [3], doi:10.1177/20322844231164089, doi:10.3390/socsci10040116, [4], doi:10.1080/03906701.2023.2233286, doi:10.1080/13518046.2019.1618583 Bondegezou (talk) 08:14, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

The pro-Ukrainian platform InformNapalm, using information hacked from a Russian military recruitment officer in Tula, has showed that over 200 Cubans have allegedly joined the Russian armed forces. Leaked documents indicate the recruits may have been lured to Russia with the promise of significant pay and Russian citizenship.[1] 2601:445:680:85E0:506F:1857:B1F0:21D3 (talk) 22:32, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
