Talk:Chris Hansen

Syntax error somewhere in the infobox

His birthdate is 9/13. It is after that date, but the age didn't update. It still shows him as 62, but by the date listed he is 63. JeffStickney (talk) 06:52, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Harassment charge

The legal issues section indicates:

"On February 28, 2020, Hansen was charged with harassment of a "civilian". He has not yet entered a plea and had a court date for March 24, 2020.<ref name="peopleJodi">{{cite web|url=https://people.com/tv/to-catch-a-predators-chris-hansen-charged-with-harassment/|title=To Catch a Predator's Chris Hansen Charged with Harassment|work=[[People (magazine)|People]]|last=Guglielmi|first=Jodi|date=March 6, 2020|access-date=6 March 2020}}</ref>{{Update inline|date=October 2021}}"

I've been trying to find an update for this but have been unsuccessful. This statement is referenced with this People article. According to WP:RSP, People is a reliable source, but "the magazine should not be used for contentious claims unless supplemented with a stronger source." I was able to find this The U.S. Sun article that essentially regurgitates the same information, but is irrelevant since The Sun is not considered reliable. There's also this Fox News article which, again, doesn't provide any additional information besides the time the alleged offense occurred.

This reeks of really shoddy journalism given the pittance of details provided, the lack of updates to any of the articles, and the absence of any follow up articles (from what I'm able to find). I suspect this charge never went anywhere (dropped or misreported and therefore not even a criminal charge to begin with) otherwise there would be coverage of it. I also suspect this may be related to the incident discussed in the Chris Hansen#Have a Seat with Chris Hansen section given the timeframes and similarities.

Because of the lack of coverage and poor quality of the sources available, along with no updates being available, I'm removing this statement from the article. If anyone is able to find secondary sources that better support this claim, feel free to re-add it. Primary sources in the form of court records, which the aforementioned publications mention as being their source but fail to provide in their articles, could also be useful although I'll admit I'm not 100% clear on Wikipedia's policy regarding the use of court documents as sources. Tuko doesn't seem like a valid reference

Reference 40 points to an article on Tuko.co.ke: https://www.tuko.co.ke/418574-what-happened-chris-hansen-to-catch-a-predator.html

This reference seems extremely dubious, especially as the article cites Tuko.co.ke as the source of all its information. I'd suggest it should be removed and replaced with an actual source on this Wiki article and others. SeekCroissant (talk) 21:34, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. I replaced it with a better source saying essentially the same thing. CWenger (^@) 22:17, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 25 January 2024

Takedown with Chris Hansen Hansen returned to television in 2022 with the series Takedown with Chris Hansen on TruBlu, which ones again features him tracking down online predators.[34]

“ones” should be changed to “once”.

Fixed by removing the word altogether. CWenger (^@) 01:58, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Onision under "associated acts"?

Unless I've got the wrong idea, I assume "Associated acts" under a creator's infobox is for people they've collaborated with. Hansen investigating Onision for pedophilia and Onision calling the cops on him doesn't sound like it fits the bill.

minus Removed along with the others because they aren't mentioned in the body of the article. CWenger (^@) 13:58, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
