Talk:Chris Brown

Chris Brown has now won 5 billboard music awards, not 4. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joszy6 (talk • contribs) 22:10, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

His domestic violence issues, which he is widely known for, are barely mentioned in the lead.

As the title says. This is the the main thing Chris Brown is known for and it's barely mentioned in a single sentence in the lead. It should be discussed how to implement this into the lead. TheXuitts (talk) 17:36, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is a stretch to say that is main thing he is known for, he was widely known before the incident for his music and he still is mainly known for his music after. If you personally only know him for this, then I do believe you are in the minority. If you want to discuss adjustments to the lead feel free, but you aren't going to get many people to agree with your statement imo. WikiVirusC(talk) 17:52, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am also uncomfortable with the way that his violence issues are treated in the article. I think the assertion that it's "the main thing he's known for" is a bit hyperbole and not really relevant to analyzing the treatment of domestic violence in the article. Hyperbolic pretention aside, I do find the treatment of the acts that he's responsible for is a bit lackluster and euphemistic.
In the lead:
> In 2009, Brown pled guilty to felony assault of his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna.
Is in the middle of the second paragraph (I missed it on first read while specifically looking for it), and accounts for one sentence out of four paragraphs.
Furthermore, in the "Legal issues" section:
> At around 12:30 a.m. (PST) on February 8, 2009, Brown and his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna, had an argument that escalated into physical violence, leaving Rihanna with visible severe facial injuries which required hospitalization.
So taking the same sentence, it's the "argument [... left] Rihanna with [severe injuries]", not Brown. While in fact, the physical violence and injuries were direct actions perpetrated by Brown. The second paragraph in the section will relate how Brown justified his actions are a result of his upbringing (and implicitly, not of his responsibility).
I understand that previous contributors have done the best that they could covering the subject, but I wish to highlight what I find lacking in the current verbiage in the hopes of finding a better way to document the topic on an important issue.
From an informal perusal of previous talk page comments, it seems several contributors have also expressed a level of discomfort with the way the subject is touched, without necessarily knowing precisely how to improve it as a practical matter, or how to do so in a way that makes some forms of consensus. I'm hoping we can find those ways to improve the article and to give the issue the treatment that it deserves. Bert Macklin (talk) 09:44, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There’s also a lack of any reference either in legal issues or personal life to the fact that he was served a 5 year restraining order for violence and threats against his ex partner Karrueche Tran. Sarcastathon (talk) 09:32, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just fixed the "argument beating Rihanna instead of Chris Brown" sentence DollysOnMyMind (talk) 11:01, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't you add a reference to the article talking about Rihanna hitting him during the relationship: https://people.com/celebrity/chris-brown-and-rihanna-had-a-history-of-violence/ Blooey (talk) 14:34, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rihanna hit him first and the other accusations were false. Read the "False accusations" section of HIS page.

The artistry section says "On "Look At Me Now", "No Romeo No Juliet" and "Stranger Things" he displayed his ability of fast rapping." This is outdated and should be changed to 'On "Look at Me Now", "No Romeo No Juliet","Stranger Things", "Weakest Link" and "I Don't Die" he displayed his ability of fast-rapping.' A Wikipedia page listing the world's best selling artists shows that he has 220 million units of certified sales so why can't we put THAT on his official page? Let's please change the figure from 140 million to 220 million since it's sourced by Wikipedia. Blooey (talk) 03:04, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I tried numerous times to update this information with the relevant sources on the basis of due weight but it kept being reverted on the grounds of WP:JUSTDONTLIKEIT. Ideally this information should be updated to reflect his update sales/certifications. But personally I will not be updating due to persistant edit warring over his factual sales/certifications tally. Someone else with extended confirmed access can/should update it. @Macaddct1984: Evening Standard wrote "He has sold more than 197 million records worldwide" here. That's a reliable source, I think the number should be updated NoOneElseLovEe (talk) 11:00, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! Will you be adding The 11:11 Tour details as you have for Chris Brown's other tours? I noticed the link isn't clickable yet and just wanted to inquire. Also wanted to take a moment to commend you on updating these! These are VERY HELPFUL AND INFORMATIVE and I want to give a shout out to the creators! Keep up the great work! Thanks again!! 68.142.158.248 (talk) 19:57, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Convicted felon

So, I recall reading some article about a celebrity (EDIT: ah, Danny Masterson, who is also a Scientologist if I recall correctly), and in the "lead" it said, after him being whatever, "...and convicted felon" (because he is) (and now it says "...convicted rapist"). But for this fella, somehow, this is not the case, the "lead" does not mention it. Why?

New Chris Brown issue doesn't fall under article topics

Business Insider reported that Chris Brown took a $10 million federal grant meant for struggling artists, used it to pay himself $5.1 million, and spent $80,000 on his birthday party and $179,000 on a celebrity basketball tournament. He did this while he owed several million in state and federal taxes.

This doesn't fall under "legal issues," because he isn't facing litigation related to it, nor does it fall under "business ventures." Not sure where it would go.

Unless the program itself accuses him (or other artists who benefited from this program) of misappropriating grant funds and takes disciplinary or legal action as a result then this is not much of controversy or something worth including in the article. For now this seems like more virtue signaling by the Business Insider source. Isjadd773 (talk) 16:28, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
