If the ship is no longer operating as the CCGS Sir Humphrey Gilbert, and has been renamed Polar Prince, would it make sense to rename this page to match, and set up a redirect for CCGS Sir Humphrey Gilbert? 65.60.141.186 (talk) 14:32, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was mulling over the same thing, but in terms of notability, the CCGS Sir Humphrey Gilbert had a 40 year career with generations of coast guard crews and some important rescues and innovations, that seems more notable than the 14 years of checkered work history as Polar Prince.Dan Conlin (talk) 20:25, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Same. I even checked the policy on ship names and we'd largely rely on recentism to justify the page move, it's not even the most famous ship in the ongoing story. Killuminator (talk) 01:09, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see a problem of using recentism, since we live now in 2023 and not in 1971 or whatever. The source portfolio of this ship is likely to change anyway due to the involvement in the salvage of the Titan. If/when the ship is decommissioned, we can review it again and see what the most well known name is. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:34, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It should be renamed to whatever the current name of the ship is. After it is junked/broken-up/destroyed, it would then be renamed to whatever the most famous name is. Other ship articles do that. --- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 19:25, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It would also be good to have a photo of Polar Prince as "Polar Prince" in its current blue paint job -- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 20:01, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
