Crossroads intersection in Ginoondan
I recently added the following to Ginoondan, Queensland re the Burnett Highway:
- After entering from Ban Ban Springs the highway runs north-west before turning south-west towards Gayndah at a crossroads intersection.[1]
The Burnett (and many other Australian highways) is an amalgam of former regional roads, often made to serve needs that are no longer as important as they once were. This intersection is a good example of that ”method” of highway design. This note is to remind me (and interested others??) that this information could be the starting point for a new section in this article. Downsize43 (talk) 04:56, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Intersection of Burnett and Bruce Hwy, isn't it right on the Tropic of Capricorn?
By chance or intentionally? Are there any markers or signs? I can see an old landmark a few hundred meters to the east, on Port Curtis Rd. Derasselner (talk) 20:07, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- According to the article Tropic of Capricorn, the Tropic is not in a fixed position but moving north at 15 m per year, so the old landmark you see might have marked the location of the Tropic at the time it was put there, but presumably isn't correct any more (unless they shift it from time to time). Similarly, the intersection of the highways may have been on the Tropic for a year or so but cannot be said to be so on a long-term basis. Kerry (talk) 00:00, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Very interesting, thanks! In fact the tropic currently is some 200 meters north of the old landmark on Port Curtis Rd.
- I also found Rockhampton has a spire at the local tourist info which seems better suitable than signs at an intersection outside town. It's 4 km north of the current tropic but some day may be exact :-) The moving of the tropic isn't constant though but changes speed and direction over long periods of time.
