Talk:Bessel Kok

Failure to achive NPOV

He is a wealthy and successful businessman who backs his mega chess events with his own millions which he earned through honest enterprise, rather than by bleeding the impoverished masses or by under-the-table evasions of the Oil for Food program. Wikipedia is not a soapbox. I would be delighted to see Kok win; however, Wikipedia is not the place for any party to advocate any candidacy. Billbrock 17:30, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In spite of being warned several times by administrators not to edit any pages written by Sam Sloan, User Bill Brock has again posted a NPOV and has again failed to comply with the rules regarding NPOV disputes. The rules are:

How to initiate an NPOV debate? If you come across an article whose content does not seem to be consistent with Wikipedia's NPOV policy, use one of the tags above to mark the article's main page. Then, on the article's talk page, make a new sectioned titled "NPOV dispute [- followed by a section's name if you're challenging just a particular section of the article and not the article as a whole]". Then, under this new section, clearly and exactly explain which part of the article does not seem to have a NPOV and why. Make some suggestions as to how one can improve the article. Be active and bold in improving the article.

As can be seen above, Bill Brock has failed to "clearly and exactly explain which part of the article does not seem to have a NPOV and why" and he has failed to "make some suggestions as to how one can improve the article. Be active and bold in improving the article."

Because Bill Brock has failed to meet these requirements, and because Bill Brock's personal dislike for me is well known ever since I beat him in a Grudge Match in Chicago in July, I am removing the NPOV alert. Sam Sloan 23:56, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Others may establish NPOV; it is precisely because of my recent public disagreement with Sam Sloan that I have refrained from editing this article. While I appreciate the useful edit made by Rook wave, this is still essentially a campaign biography. Again, I note for the record that I support the Kok candidacy. You are misusing Wikipedia as a platform for an election campaign. As dubious as Kirsan Ilyumzhinov might be, this is not the right place for attacks on him. I removed all parts in this direction. Rook wave 02:34, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

copyvio?

This article is mostly pasted from here. Phr 07:05, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Almost every major chess event held in Central Europe for the past 20 years has involved Bessel Kok"

Unsourced; without detracting from Kok's many accomplishments, the claim is dubious. Billbrock 21:53, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Completely false. The annual Linares supertournament, until recently considered the "Wimbledon of Chess", is Luis Rentaro`s baby. As far as I know, Bessel Kok was not involved at all. That`s just using the biggest example
