Proposed Merger
I believe that the article on the Lonclass category system used in the BBC Archives should be merged into a section on this, the BBC Archives article. The Lonclass article is a stub with little to expand the article from. Also, the subject is only used by BBC Archives and it is best to merge in my opinion. It is quite likely (maybe I should just say 'possible') that BBC will make lonclass data available in public in the relatively near future. Lonclass is also strongly related to UDC (on some views it just is UDC), which is also opening up. I'd argue against folding it into either BBC or UDC entries, but agree that richer crosslinking is definitely needed. DanBri (talk) 14:48, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
Project Barcelona
Where does this fit in to the BBC Archive please? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2115266/BBC-announces-pay-downloads-lost-classics-archives-iPlayer-treatment.html John a s (talk) 08:32, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
- You could create a new section called projects also I have seen another article http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/multiplatform/barcelona-becomes-bbc-store/5047041.article it says Project Barcelona becomes BBC Store.
Thanks - unfortunatelty broadcastnow have a paywall so I don't have access to the article for any details. John a s (talk) 21:55, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
Digitization
It is said that this will be complete in 2015 - was it? Jackiespeel (talk) 16:59, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
BBC Monitoring
There's no mention of BBC Monitoring in here. As far as I am aware, BBC Monitoring has its own archives and for fairly obvious reasons a lot of these will be with the UK Ministry of Defence (United Kingdom) or some devolved agency thereof (I wouldn't be surprised, back to themselves). I don't think we need to say much on here except that the BBC archive doesn't contain the archives of BBC Monitoring. There's no mention over at BBC Monitoring either, but they will be somewhere. For example some of the intelligence gained at Bletchley Park came from BBC Monitoring stations, and it will have been recorded (on paper) anf filed in a rather Minitrue manner in the Recdep (goodwise newspeak bellyfeel), but I have no idea who technically has ownership of it or where it might be. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I just know that the British love to file stuff... a bit like the Germans, sometimes we have such a good picture of World War II because of their fanatical ability to file stuff. Nation of shopkeepers, pah! Nation of librarians, more like it. Si Trew (talk) 18:19, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
A few too many notes, Mozart
This article seems overwritten, even for WP [grin]. I've had time to simplify the first couple of paragraphs, but must now resume the many Important Daily Maintenance Tasks that dominate my life—so I'll leave you to it [wink, nudge, opening crisps, popping a Pimms]. "Be brave", as Jimmy Wales says. Cheers – AndyFielding (talk) 06:41, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
