I would recommend 2012 Ingleside, San Francisco killings. its plural, after all. Im not convinced of the Ingleside tag, but i do know that killing(s) is standard here.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:13, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The most recent date given for anything in the article is early 2015, and that's for some legislation introduced. As for the trial of the accused, that's described as having been moved to 2016.

@Daniel Case: that's because there's been absolutely no news. Search the defendant's name, either in English, or in the usual Chinese transcription (陸平泰, because Chinese-language media have been paying more attention to this case than English-language media), you'll get nothing more recent than 2015 besides trivial mentions in the context of other deportable criminals. 2012 Ingleside, San Francisco homicide → Lei family murders – According to WP:CRITERIA, an article title should be one "that someone familiar with, although not necessarily an expert in, the subject area will recognize", "that readers are likely to look or search for and that editors would naturally use to link to the article from other articles", "not longer than necessary to identify the article's subject" and "consistent with the pattern of similar articles' titles". The current title is not any of these things in my view.

• It's more detailed than necessary: does the title really need to specify that the case took place in "Ingleside, San Francisco" rather than just "Ingleside"?
• It's not one that readers are likely to search for or that the average person familiar with the case is likely to recognize: how many people know the case as "the 2012 Ingleside, San Francisco homicide", as opposed to "Ingleside murders" or "Lei family murders" (or some variation thereof)?
• It's not consistent: almost all articles on similar subjects are more along the lines of the name I've suggested (see Earll family murders, Clutter family murders, Eastburn family murders, Bain family murders, Freeman family murders, Bluestone family murders, Richardson family murders, Harok family murder, Van Breda murders, Hart family murders, Watts family murders, Todt family murders).
• It also breaks WP:DEATHS, as a murder conviction occurred in this case so it should be titled as "murder", not "homicide".

Therefore, I suggest either "2012 Ingleside murders" or "Lei family murders", both of which would fix most or all of the problems I've identified.--Tulzscha (talk) 13:45, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

• Maybe 2012 San Francisco quintuple murder which is more WP:RECOGNIZABLE and at least weakly WP:CONSISTENT with some other articles like 2015 Washington, D.C., quadruple murder incident or 2011 Waltham triple murder. The single most salient fact about this case is the number of victims: literally all of the sources cited mention it, with plenty putting "five" or "quintuple" in the headline or lead paragraph.
  • "Ingleside", particularly without mentioning "San Francisco", is unrecognizable to anyone outside of the Bay Area; most headlines of articles about the murders don't state the name of the neighborhood, and plenty of article bodies (e.g. sources #4, #6, #8, #12, #15, #17, #18, #20) don't either and just describe the location as "Howth Street" or "near City College of San Francisco".
  • Lei family murders is more WP:CONSISTENT with other articles as mentioned by the nominator, and I'd like to support it, but again there's a WP:RECOGNIZABLE problem: English-language sources, as opposed to Chinese-language sources, wrote very little about the victims. Not a single English-language source put the name of the victims in the headline; only a few mention their name in the lead paragraph of their articles, and some (a smaller number than with "Ingleside", but e.g. #4, #12. #20) literally don't even state the names of the victims once in the whole article.
