Talk:1812–1819 Ottoman plague epidemic

med/talk question

User:Xwejnusgozo per[1] your question I would say epidemic, however due to the worldwide population at the time could be pandemic--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 20:35, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Much more of 300.000 victims

There were 300,000 victims in 1812. The total epidemic has claimed several million lives. Zythème (talk) 10:52, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Zythème: Although I wrote the article, I did so more as an extension/background to the article about the 1813–1814 Malta plague epidemic. I am not familiar with the topic at all and I just used the few online sources which I was able to find at the time. The sources which mention the death toll are this book from 1828 (currently ref 3) and this one from 2020 (ref 2). Ref 2 mentions 300,000 deaths in Constantinople alone, while ref 3 mentions 320,955 deaths, which might also refer to just the capital. I'm sure that there are more reliable and recent sources out there which provide more detail to this issue. If you have any such sources, feel free to add them and edit/expand the article accordingly. Xwejnusgozo (talk) 16:44, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
