History

The club was founded in 1958 and played in amateur leagues for the first few decades. In the mid-1990s, the club managed to establish itself in the Regionalliga (3rd division) with a mixture of renowned, experienced players and local “youngsters”. In 1998, the team was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga South and established itself there in the following years. The 19992000 season ended with a thrilling final on the last match day, with the team being promoted to the 1st Bundesliga. However, the club was immediately relegated again. In the 200405 season, the team was able to regain its place in the 1st Bundesliga. The team remained undefeated the whole season.[1]

For the 200506 season, one of the most successful table tennis players of all time, Jan-Ove Waldner, was signed. In 2004, at the age of 38, he had reached fourth place at the Olympic Games. In 2007, Jörgen Persson, another former world and European champion, was signed. Over the following years, the club became one of the top clubs in the league, finishing as runners-up several times.
