Sage wall

The Sage Wall is a 275 foot long, 24 foot high rock formation in southwestern Montana.[1] Its formation is consistent with the geology of the Boulder Batholith responsible for other exposed granite structures in the region. Superficially, the wall has features of a constructed edifice, with large block segments seemingly stacked on top of each other, though no evidence of tool use or human artifacts have been found at the site. Systematic cracks, or what appear to be “joints”, naturally occur in rock with high mineral composition such as the rocks which form the Sage Wall.[2]

Origin

Geologists believe the Sage Wall was formed through immense tectonic pressure, forming symmetrical segments that resemble man-made blocks. It is composed largely of granite and quartz. It is a feature of the larger Boulder Batholith in which it resides, a mass of plutonic rock larger than 100 square kilometers. Due to the private ownership of land and its relatively recent discovery, scientific study by esteemed academics has been sparse, as there is little to no published information on the formation currently available to the public.

The site is currently a key feature at the larger Sage Mountain Center, a tourist resort privately owned by the individuals who stumbled upon the Sage wall less than a decade ago.

Media Attention

The Sage Wall has been the subject of social media posts with unsupported claims of a possible unnatural origin. Public notoriety increased dramatically after being featured on the world's most viewed podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience.[3]
