Miguel Angel Cuesta Valentín

Miguel Angel Cuesta Valentín is a Spanish gastrointestinal surgeon[1] and professor.[2][3][4] He is recognized for his work in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for esophagogastric and colorectal cancers.[5]

Early life and Education

Miguel was born and raised in Spain. He pursued his medical studies at the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, where he earned his medical degree from 1964 to 1970.[6][7] After completing his studies, he pursued a residency in General Surgery at VUmc (Vrije Universiteit Medisch Centrum), in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from 1972 to 1978.[8] This training prepared him to explore gastrointestinal surgery.[9][10]

Following his residency, Miguel gained experience as a general surgeon at Hospital “Virgen de la Salud” in Toledo, Spain.[11]

Career

Miguel concentrated his efforts at the VUmc on implementing MIS techniques for esophagogastric and colorectal cancers.[12]

Miguel has actively contributed to minimally invasive surgery (MIS). In 1993, he worked as the editor-in-chief of the first book dedicated to minimally invasive surgery in gastrointestinal cancer, titled Minimally Invasive Surgery in Gastrointestinal Cancer.[13]
