English: Kochi was a fishing village in the Kingdom of Kochi in the pre-colonial Kerala. The territory later known as Fort Kochi was granted to the Portuguese in 1503. Kochi was the centre of Indian spice trade for many centuries, and was known to Greeks, Romans, Arabs and Chinese since ancient times. Fort Kochi, Cochin, Kerala, India.
