Alfonso III la hizo grabar en una lápida de su palacio de Oviedo en 875 […]. Son todas cruces estacionales o procesionales con el alfa y la omega pendientes de sus brazos que se colocaban sobre un asta. La Cruz procesional cumple también una función como enseña o guión en el ejército real […]. Las inscripciones que suelen acompañarla en representaciones en piedra o en las cruces votivas ‘HOC SIGNO TUETUR PIVS, HOC SIGNO VINCITUR INIMICVS’. En las representaciones de la fachadas de Alfonso III y del Arco de la Foncada de Oviedo copian una oración del LIber ordinum ‘SIGNVM SALVSTI PONE, DOMINO, IN DOMINIBVS ISTIS UT NON PERMITTAS INTROIRE ANGELVM PERCUTIEREM’”.
