053 at Claremorris on 23 October 1985 on 16:20 Claremorris to Ballina. Small engines with a couple of passenger coaches plus steam heating van were the norm on this line for many years to due axle weight restrictions. The Ballina branch traditionally worked as a connection off through trains from Dublin to Westport. In the 1990s the operational arrangements changed and a purpose built transfer platform was built at Manulla Junction.
