The Poet is a 1960 TV play starring Fiona Duncan, Derek Francis, Peter Sallis, Gretchen Franklin, Diarmind Cammell, Patrica Raine, Mary McMillan, Graham Armitage and John Woodvine. The TV play is based of Dario Niccodemi's novel The Poet's Mystery.^[1][2] It was made by BBC, BBC Schools, produced in black and white and screened on 25 October 1960 on BBC Television.^[3]

A poet named Pasquali develops a romance between a fragile women named Clarissa, however after a number of obstacles, Pasquali and Clarissa eventually get married, but Clarissa dies during the honeymoon.

Since Dario Niccodemi's novel The Poet's Mystery was an Italian novel Robert Rietti was brought over to translate the novel into an English tv play.

The BBC chose the company BBC Schools to make the play because many of the television programmes that they made were made to educate kids at school. The play was first broadcast on 25 October 1960 on BBC Television and when it came out the play its self got a lot of positive feedback from audiences and critics so much so that it was shown another three times again on BBC Television.^[4] The play was shown a second time on 26 October 1960, then again on 1 November 1960 and it was shown one final time on 2 November 1960. The play is now available to watch on TV Brain.^[5]
