Slangcorp is an American hip hop collective from West Orange, New Jersey, perhaps best known through their affiliation with fellow New Jersey-area rappers, the Artifacts, and Outsidaz.
History
The group formed in January 2008 after underground rapper/producer Pistol began collaborating with Shape, TMFSE and GDP of Division East Records, which was based out of the Division East Skate Shop in Montclair, NJ. The original lineup was rounded out by rapper Larry Hobson and producer/engineer C-Minus, who were present at a meeting later in 2008 at GDP's house where the group essentially decided NOT to continue making music together. This breakup was short-lived, as early 2009 saw Pistol complete work on "The Last Supper" album and TMFSE release the "Birdseed" album with producer Junkwaffel, under the "Emily Rugburn" moniker. The quality and reaction of these two Slangcorp.com downloads, along with GDP's "Realistic Expectations" (Say-10 Records) led the group to reconsider their relationship and continue making music together.
In June 2009, GDP and Pistol set out on their first US tour, spanning 2 months and over 40 cities. They were joined by Daniel Joseph of Bullymouth, who had released on DE, as well as Space Jesus (then going by the name DJ Kre8, and later Faggy Smokes). Their tour kickoff show in West Orange, NJ was attended by several members of the Outsidaz, including Young Zee, who took a special interest in the crew and began collaborating with them. During the same time, Tame One of the Artifacts took a similar interest in slangcorp, and began making music with them as well. In 2011, Pistol released "Gold Bricks", the first collaboration between Young Zee and Tame One since 1996's Family Day.
