Meer Akhtar Hussain is an Indian politician hailing from Assam. He played a significant role as a Commissioner in the Makum Municipal Board under the banner of the Indian National Congress. Beyond his local responsibilities, he also serves as the Zonal Coordinator for the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan, showcasing his dedication to community-level governance.[1][2]He is also the Vice President of Tinsukia District Congress Committee[3]
Early life and education
Meer Akhtar Hussain came into this world on December 31, 1972, as the child of Meer Munshi Hussain in Makum. He pursued his studies at Tinsukia College and started his political journey in Makum, where he became a part of the Indian Youth Congress.
Political career
In the 2015 Municipal Elections, Meer stood as a candidate for the Municipal Board of Makum under the banner of the Indian National Congress and has won the election and became Commissioner of Makum Municipal Board. He had a strong bond with the late Rameswar Dhanowar, indicating their close working relationship. Beyond that, Meer also plays a role as a Returning Officer within the Indian Youth Congress, where he is responsible for managing important processes like scrutiny of all the new members of INC.[4]
Personal life
On January 27, 2000, Meer married Susmita Yasmin. They had a son.
