Draft:Luke Gamble
Luke Gamble, born 1976, is a British Veterinary Surgeon, founder of international animal welfare charity Worldwide Veterinary Service, and a TV vet. He graduated from the University of Bristol with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) degree and undertook a post graduate scholarship in large animal medicine and surgery at Cambridge University. He is a Fellow.[1] of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Veterinary Career
In 2005 Luke set up his own practice, Pilgrims Veterinary Practice, based in the New Forest in the South of England, initially employing six vets located between branches in Cranborne and Fordingbridge.
In 2003, Luke founded Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS)[2], an animal welfare charity aimed at improving veterinary care around the world through providing veterinary medication, supplies, and sending volunteers vets to support organisations. In 2013, the charity launched Mission Rabies[3], a project working to combat the spread of rabies through canine vaccination[4]
TV Appearances
In 2010 Luke featured in a Sky TV series called Vet Adventures, travelling around the world to areas where veterinary care is limited.
In 2015 Luke featured in a 2015 documentary, featured on the National Geographic channel, T. Rex Autopsy.
Publications
Luke has written many articles for veterinary journals[5] and is published as main author / co author or senior author in Vet Times, Vet Record, Clinicians Brief, JSAP, BMC Infectious Disease, PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases, amongst others. His works as author and co author include:
- Outcomes of a Short-Duration, Large-Scale Canine Rabies Vaccination Campaign in Central Cambodia
- Capturing free-roaming dogs for sterilisation: A multi-site study in Goa, India
- Implementation of a mass canine rabies vaccination campaign in both rural and urban regions in southern Malawi
- The problem of stray dogs
Luke has also written a series of published books, including stories for children.
