Capelli Sport is an American sportswear and footwear company based in New York, United States.[1] Founded in 2011 by Lebanese-American George Altirs,[2] Capelli Sport also has locations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa under Capelli Europe GmbH, and in China under GMA Shanghai.[1][3]
Capelli Sport has focused on the soccer market,[4] producing kits, goalkeeper gloves, and balls, as well as casual wear – such as t-shirts, hoodies, jackets and leggings – and accessories, such as bags and hats.[5] In 2022, basketball and volleyball apparel lines were added, and in 2023, the business expanded into baseball, softball, football, flag football field hockey and lacrosse, tennis, golf, swimming and wrestling lines are slated to be added in 2024.
History
In 2013, Capelli Sport signed a corporate partnership with the Wilmington Hammerheads, a United Soccer League PRO team, at the time, that has since rebranded to USL Championship. As of 2021, Capelli Sport is the new exclusive uniform and apparel provider for PRO, an organization of professional referees. The referees officiate Major League Soccer matches, which attract roughly 300 million viewers in the US alone, and will now feature Capelli Sport on viewers screens.
Capelli Sport owns and operates several professional soccer clubs around the world including Barnsley Women's FC in England, KFUM Roskilde in Denmark, Inter Allies FC in Ghana, and HB Køge in Denmark. HB Køge is a professional football club founded in 2009 as a merger of two of the proudest clubs in Danish football, Herfølge Boldklub and Køge Boldklub, both former Danish Champions. After Capelli Sport started investing in HB Køge, the club's amateur women's team rapidly rose through the Danish leagues. Five sensational straight promotions led them to the Danish top tier Gjensidige Kvindeliga. HB Køge currently plays in Capelli Sport Stadium in Køge, Denmark which is undergoing renovations with a 2025 completion. The renovated stadium will hold 7,000 fans, includes a VIP lounge, and has a turf field approved for matches in the Danish SuperLiga, UEFA and FIFA.
Capelli Sport has equipped various soccer teams, most notably European based clubs AEK Athens, Grasshopper Club Zurich, Pogoń Szczecin, VfL Osnabrück, London City Lionesses, and HB Køge. United States based clubs include Colorado Switchbacks, Charlotte Independence, Rhode Island FC, Tampa Bay Sun FC, and Carolina Ascent. Capelli Sport is the official uniform and on-field apparel sponsor for the USL Super League.[6] Capelli Sport currently equips the Trinidad and Tobago National Federation team.[1]
On March 15, 2023, Capelli partnered with US-based Legends FC for their 2023 season.[7] Capelli Sport will be in charge of the uniform, apparel, and the equipment. Players will also have access to Capelli Sport's European clubs, events, coaching, education, and a players pathways club through Capelli Sport+.[7]
In 2024, Capelli Sport's sponsorship helped launch U.S. College Club Soccer (USCCS)[8], a national organzition to support the approximate 600 university-sanctioned, student-run men’s and women’s teams[9], which since 1994 have competed for the NIRSA National Soccer Championships.
