2024 Cure Award

Hi James, earlier today many contributors on many language versions, including myself, received the 2024 Cure Award. Although I appreciate the initiative, the award was given to just about anyone who did anything on any article related to the medical field in an entire year. This includes grammatical corrections, link fixes, redactions and edits that have nothing to do with people having any kind of interest in the medical field. I feel that the value of this award has been diluted to the point of it hardly having any kind of significance at all. That's a shame, since the contributors who did put real effort into writing or editing medical articles should perhaps indeed receive some kind of recognition, though not/no longer this award.

The links provided with the accompanying text on my talk page on the Dutch Wikipedia leave me confused. Is this Wiki(p/m)edia related? Am I reaching out to the right person? Is this the right place to reach you? Would I have to create an account on a different wiki just to raise this issue? I'll just try this and see what happens. In total, 2,946 users received this award, including users of the Dutch-language Wikipedia like me. I guess it's just a mistake? I cannot imagine that this was done intentionally. Maybe @Doc James wanted to hand it out to some people but something went wrong. S. Perquin (talk)19:50, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, yes this should have been more targetted in larger languages. Though reverting vandalism and fixing gramatical issues is still critically important work. Will make sure to limit it to no more than 25 editors per language next year. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 23:43, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
