I edited out of the article because I could not find one corroborating newspaper in 1971 that mentioned any kind of incident like described happening. Google news has an excellent news archive. I found nada. I searched the Los Angeles Times archives since this was a game supposed to be involving the dodgers and taking place in 1971. The second search was as fruitless as the first.

A Baseball article

tells the story but it was written in 2009. An incident with a 10-sack pound of sack falling from the sky at a baseball game can't have gone unreported. Till a reliable source at the time or very close to it confirms the story, it has to be considered a myth and not enclycopedic.

I think I may delete it from the article, as, even though it is now sourced, it has no bearing on the subject. We are not a news site. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:11, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Really belongs to Woodward himself. I found it via a Google news archive search.

Interestingly enough, the 1970 newspaper and Baseball reference conflict as to who gave up Woodward's 'immortal shot'. BR says Ron Reed, the article says Hoyt Wilhelm.-William 11:06, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
