I plan to expand the sections that are already there, as well as add new sections with related information. One idea I had was to discuss the gender differences between "folk healers" with traditional practitioners. Specifically related to Appalachia, I think it might be interesting to incorporate some information about the Foxfire series, a series of book written by early Appalachians that would have included recipes for medicines and medicinal treatments. Overall, I think this article would greatly benefit just from expansion, as it is a very interesting topic and there's a plethora of information out there that relates to it! I plan to perform substantive editing on the article Folk Healer. Information on the page lacks length and could use far more information on folk healing and fact-checking. The article could use some work on the headings as there are only two (at the time of looking) and a definition. Much like the user above I noticed the same things! Working with what they have given as well I plan to add more! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alicynbcraig (talk • contribs) 22:15, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
Umbrella Page Erasing Cultural Nuances and Practices
I wanted to start a conversation, since my previous attempt to separate this umbrella term "folk healer" didn't go over well and the page I started "Appalachian" got resorbed. But I think attempting to cover the multitude of cultures that have their own unique folk healers and traditions erases the nuances found in each. I'd like to start pages for Appalachian granny healing, curanderas, spae women, cunningfolk, etc. All of them have their own nuances and practices, and I think it's important to preserve that history and not let it get mashed together. Let me know what your thoughts are, or if you have another solution to preserving the cultural integrity of these practices. BionicOven28 (talk) 17:41, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
