KYRO (1280 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Troy, Missouri, serving the western suburbs of St. Louis. KYRO airs a conservative talk radio format and is owned by Lee Thompson and John Scheper, through licensee Lincoln County Broadcasting LLC, and operated by Viper Broadcasting, LLC.[citation needed]

KYRO is a Class D station. It is powered at 600 watts by day and 45 watts at night. Programming is also heard on FM translator K287CM at 105.3 MHz in Troy.

Programming

Much of KYRO's programming is nationally syndicated conservative talk programs: The Sean Hannity Show, The Glenn Beck Radio Program, The Dan Bongino Show, The Bill O'Reilly Show and Red Eye Radio. The KYRO Newsroom provides frequent news and weather updates with world and national news covered by Fox News Radio.

KYRO carries live sports, including Kansas City Chiefs football,[2] St. Louis Blues hockey and University of Missouri Tigers athletics.[3] It runs NASCAR races from the Motor Racing Network and the Performance Racing Network.[4] It is also the flagship station for Maryville University Saints Hockey broadcasts.

History

The station signed on the air on February 22, 1959; 65 years ago (1959-02-22). Its original city of license was Potosi, Missouri.[5] In its early years, the station was a daytimer, required to go off the air at night to avoid interfering with other stations on 1280 AM. It later got authorization to remain on the air after sunset with low power.
