DescriptionThe Turkish Pavilion for Expo 58 Brussels (14646856526).jpg
English: The Turkish Pavilion for Expo 58 Brussels was designed by Utarit İzgi, Muhlis Türkmen, Hamdi Şensoy and İlhan Türegün. A monumental mosaic wall with vernacular motifs, by artist Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, was installed in the building. After the World Fair all the structural and internal elements of the pavilion were transported to Ankara. It was planned that the pavilion would be rebuit near the Sports Hall, but after the military coup in 1960, the components were sent to İstanbul and sold to the municipality. Although the Academy of Fine Arts were keen to buy the building they couldn’t raise the funds to do so. Bizarrely, the tiles of the mosaic were discovered in Cyprus in 2010 and were displayed in an exhibition in Nicosia curated by Johann Pillai.

Türkçe: Expo 58 Brüksel Türkiye Pavyonu, Utarit İzgi, Muhlis Türkmen, Hamdi Şensoy ve İlhan Türegün tarafından, 1950’lerin modernist mimarlık eğilimine uygun olarak tasarlandı. Pavyonda Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu’nun anıtsal boyutta, yerel motifli mozaik duvar uygulaması yer aldı. Pavyonun fuardan sonra Ankara Spor Sarayı çevresine monte edilmesi planlanan parçaları, 1960 darbesinin ardından İstanbul’a gönderilerek büyükşehir belediyesine satıldı.
